The FBI could have shut this thing down w/in 2-3 days by doing these three simple things, and avoided
any bloodshed in the process.. but they aren't even doing these things. It's tantamount to complicit and
enabling domestic terrorism IMHO.

a) cut off all access (in & out) to the Federal facility and lands involved,
surround the place with wide perimeter if necessary.
b) cut off all utilities, jam the cell phones & computer access, cut off water, electricity, etc.
c) wait them out and arrest them when they leave, or use tear gas, as needed to force the issue.

In fact I only hear about it here.

Now it is seriously cold and nothing much is happening so most coverage has disappeared. That may be one of the things the feds have been waiting for. They don't want live national coverage of any federal authority action that might result in a shoot out.

and should be available to the public. Birders are not aggressive or threatening so there is no justification to turn them away. Their whole purpose us to provoke a confrontation. It is difficult to be confrontational with birders.

The occupiers will be turned into hosts. Birders come equipped with cameras and any aggression or interference will be documented and reported. The occupiers will not be able control or handle the exposure.

Any movement/insurrection is dependent upon public support. They are currently enjoying some local support (they are able to buy supplies, stay in hotels, go to restaurants and bars).

Burns economy is dependent upon visitor trade and negative publicity will dry that up. Currently with all of the media traffic. they have been good for business. If they are seen as bad for business, local business will cut them off.

Without support the position becomes untenable.
Like Occupy, you go home and kook for another approach.

I've been to eastern Oregon: pretty country, but remote and very thinly populated. Of course it's not being covered: what mainstream media reporters are going to want to spend time out in the back of beyond with no decent hotels or restaurants to retire to after a long day of shoving microphones into faces and pandering? Not when they can be following important news like the endless GOP circus.

I do blame the administration - the Sec. of the Interior in particular - for not coming down hard on the Bundy bunch the last time they pulled this.
