I saw a parent with a little girl wearing it in a shopping mall a few weeks ago.

I could not tell if the intent was to be a joke or not.

(1,604 posts)I can see the seduction of home schooling. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I can see parents being afraid to send their kids.

(7,820 posts)I think it's supposed to be a joke about public schools being socialist.

(182,805 posts)Homeschoolers often have "events" so their kids can actually interact with other kids, different from the kids (siblings) they spend every waking hour with. The homeschoolers that I've run into mostly do this through their church or they think they are oh so clever to have worked this out with other parents.
The only thing worse that I've run into, in professional settings, worse than homeschooled (or homeschoolers) are Liberty U grads - and they are very widespread around here.

(19,339 posts)With the many options for socialization for people who want their homeschool kids to get different perspectives, it's an odd objection. I'm guessing this is poking fun at it.

(49,212 posts)Homeschooling parents get asked constantly about their child's socialization. It's definitely an eye-roll provoking moment on par with asking vegans where they get their protein or atheists what stops them from committing murder or some other terrible crime without a holy book forbidding it.

I'd say it's a joke, but a poorly conceived one.
