The misogyny is even more evident when the insult is directed at a man, because the implication is that he is inferior because he is feminine.

I would have voted to HIDE IT.

She's hardly a misogynist. That word gets tossed around so much here that it has no meaning any more. Even the PC police hardly sit up and take notice.

Not for one moment, do I believe that about the person who started this thread.

But the widespread use of the word is an example of internalized sexism. Using gender specific slurs, is really the same as using ethnic or race specific slurs.

but that doesn't mean it loses its misogyny. She doesn't need to be misogynist to have internalized the misogyny. It's like that scary Trump spokesman, she thinks her racist words are not racist because they were used against her and she doesn't see their intrinsic racism anymore. (I'm sure your wife is not a misogynist, but the term is very much so, as the context usually reveals.)
