In common US English 'gal' is the counterpart to 'guy' which is also not age specific.

(58,785 posts)lose all its industry to white flight, without investment to bring in new, and allowed to fail -- by a Michigan state government that colluded in and aided the abandonment of...Detroit! Nothing is so incredible and unlikely that it is not possible and is not happening somewhere.
I believe strongly that citizens have an absolute duty to monitor what our public officials do with the power we give them and to remove it for poor performance and malfeasance. In a nation this size, expelling people from office should not be uncommon.

(78,249 posts)Although it doesn't have as many advantages as the D does (all that architecture!), it does have a University of Michigan campus to work with. Perhaps it could reach back into its automotive past and set up a gigantic car museum, maybe with an assembly line still running.

LOL. Yesterday I was in a small boat where truly giant freshwater springs come up in an estuary right off the Gulf of Mexico, creating a places where manatees can be warm all year round. I swear I couldn't enjoy the beautiful scenery the way I should for cringing at the unbelievable amounts of fresh water lost to the sea. Just like when we're visiting people who leave faucets running but worse. I have PTSD from drought.

(67,808 posts)I realize there may be some issues with applying that phrase to this, but, when you think of all the places that FUCK, Snyder, installed "Emergency Managers", the phrase seems apros pos.

(22,772 posts)BLM is not only about punitive law enforcement, BUT ALSO about horrible oversight of basic infrastructure. What happened in Ferguson, showed white America the crushing, punitive, disturbing reaction of law enforcement to civil protests and now white America is now having to confront the purposeful lead poisining of a generation of children in Flint Michigan.
This was by design and it's disturbing. Black Lives Matter. Snyder need to resign.

He shouldn't get the option of resigning. He should be impeached, indicted and based on the available evidence convicted along with the town's emergency manager and anybody else responsible.
Unfortunately the rest of the country will be stuck footing the bill for this, but I think as much as possible should be coming out of Snyder's personal bank account as he caused this.

I read somewhere that's what he's worth. I have no idea where he got it. That would indeed buy quite a bit of new water pipe and continuing medical care for his victims. He also has some billionaire pals who helped him get elected such as the DeVos family of Grand Rapids.

(31,464 posts)Maybe I missed that part. A Republican wet dream, "Emergency Managers" who got to rule without any consequence, authoritarian profiteers unburdened by pesky regulations and laws. How did this ever even be allowed to happen?

(19,993 posts)At Rachel's town hall it was explained that a public referendum or something voted to get rid of the law but then Snyder and the legislature went to work and reinforced it and made it so the law could not be repealed by a referendum. Something odious like that. I believe Michael Moore also prioritized getting rid of the law when he was on Lawrence O'Donnell's show last night. It's a prescription for malfeasance and tyranny.

(4,533 posts)the law passed by Snyder gave much broader powers to those people than pre-existing law. And it's very much broaded conditions in which could be used. Prior the 2012 law it was something that only been used a handfull of time in the state
