(13,877 posts)It's that simple. Politics run on money...donations. You gave, they want to you to give again. You have the power.

(51,076 posts)and i guess they sold my email addy or something. I finally had to abandon it and start a new one cause I was getting a hundred or more a day
After several years I finally went back to that email address a while back and it was back to normal. it took me hours to delete all the mail in my inbox though.

(50,986 posts)in a given state's primary schedule, because maybe it will buy a pizza for a group of volunteers working in a small town campaign office.
It's something of a 'thank you' for their extending themselves into the democratic process, but also because it affords them an opportunity to know each other as people, as friends, as committed fellow citizens. The pizza is likely to be wolfed down pretty quick, but my hope is these folks remain friends.

(53,339 posts)The worst is when the final quarter FEC deadlines coincide with end-of-year charity deadlines. so you get both the political appeals AND the charity appeals.
And to top it off, my apartment bldg mgt recently allowed us to sign up to pay rent online, and as soon as I did I started getting bombarded with junk email. I spend more time deleting email than I do reading it, lol.

(53,339 posts)I used to give to to orgs like DCCC and DSCC and Emily's List and others, but that's kind of fallen by the wayside for me now.
Once I gave to a Dem opponent who had no real chance against Issa, but I just wanted to do it and force GOP to fund Issa in his campaign. It was the only time I got a handwritten thankyou note from the candidate I donated to.
The fact is, for Dems to win they need campaign money. I want them to win, so I contribute.

(37,573 posts)and I will never email you asking for money again.
Well, at least it is e-mail.
I really hated it when I gave $15 to America's 2nd Harvest and then started getting letters every month. I was like "I really did not want you to use ANY of the money I gave you on printing and postage to ask for more."
I know it is kind of a Catch 22. They do that because it brings them more money than it costs. But still...
And then somebody clearly sold my name and address on their list of "a sucker for leftist causes".
On the plus side though I have five copies of the Constitution courtesy of the ACLU and I am still using the address labels from Amnesty International. Every so often the Sierra club mails me a nickel. Too bad about the trees that were cut down to provide paper for their mass mailings.
Now, of course, AARP mails me every other week. They haven't sent me anything though.

I can't donate anyway due to compliance at my company. I prefer anonymity over telling anyone at my company who I might donate to. Better to not donate.
