(15,036 posts)before the main film in the theaters. It used to be, a cartoon would play between the previews and the main attraction, and the Pixar movies still do that, but it's been decades since I saw a short film highlighted this way, or an animated flick independent of the main film.
Maybe I just go to the wrong theaters.

(29,414 posts)is at a film festival. Theaters only care about how much more money they can make. An old 6-min. WB cartoon means at least six one-minute long commercials (or two movie-previews) they can't play. Guess what their choice is going to be each and every time.

(15,036 posts)most likely they'd take the money and give me more commercials.
It would be nice to see the short flicks and animated gems without having to seek them out independently. (Even though I'm in South California, the closest place for festivals or art films is some 30 to 40 minutes away.)
The last short film I remember was a 5 or 7 minute flick on the making of Irish crystal. Exquisite. The artist took heated glass rolled into a cylinder and deftly formed a handle with it on a vase, all in one fluid motion. The execution was more beautiful than the finished product. I clapped and cheered, I was so taken with it. That was some 40 years ago.

Now, I have never been to the Alamo Drafthouse, so I don't know if they show shorts before the feature, considering how differently they're set up for showing films (like a restaurant with a movie screen.) I could see them doing such a thing as they probably make more money off of the food and beer than the movie.

(1,975 posts)I have every once in a while watched some of the movies with him. The movies come with an annoying ticker that states that this movie should not be recorded, given out etc.
I'll definitely watch Day One whenever it becomes available.
