"My whole life's been gambled ..."

Searching for family history, I happen to find this article about Teresa McGovern, which I found to be interesting and moving. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/teresa-mcgovern-a-death-in-the-cold/2012/10/21/42ad26ca-1bde-11e2-ba31-3083ca97c314_story.html

I liked this quote from George

"My whole life's been gambled on the thesis that through education and information and political action you can change things for the better." George McGovern

Although when he talks about "gambling" his life, he makes it sound like a sacrifice or a loss, when it seems to me he achieved a fair amount of wealth and fame. Senators make far better than average money and get a whole bunch of other perks too.

"education and information". There is so much misinformation, propaganda, and hype out there though it often seems like a losing battle. And so many people are hostile to information they disagree with and the messengers thereof.

I think that is probably what a lot of people are trying to do though - change things for the better through education and information and political action.
