I'm so disappointed.
Brian Cookson told a press conference in Zolder, Belgium, that it was absolutely clear that there was technological fraud. There was a concealed motor.
The practice, known as motorised doping has been the subject of many rumours for the past six years, but no cases have ever been discovered until the weekend. It is widely known that the addition of a small electric motor hidden in a bike could save a rider up to 100 watts of energy while pedalling, significantly boosting performance.

Doping youth riders is child abuse, says Brian Cookson
Saturdays doped bike belonged to young Belgian cyclist Femke van den Driessche, one of the favourites in the womens Under-23 category race. In the event, Van den Driessche was forced to abandon because of a mechanical incident.

(21,577 posts)"Sosa doesn't shy away from the controversy. He steps right into the glow of the TV cameras and admits his guilt. But he says it was an honest mistake, that he grabbed the wrong bat. He admits the bat is his, but that he uses it for batting practice, occasionally, just to excite the fans with long and deep 450-foot blasts.
"I use that bat for batting practice," he tells the world. "It's something that I take the blame for. It's a mistake. I feel sorry."
Still, many see Sosa's excuse as lame and ridiculous. Sure, they acknowledged, it may be true that Sosa only used the corked bat in BP to excite fans with mammoth bombs. But the question is why would a player risk messing up his timing by using a corked 31-ounce bat before the game for BP and then switch to a 33-ounce model in the game?"

The Vivax unit drives the pedals.
Note in that video that the pedals are not rotating.

The newly developed Gruber Assist bicycle drive consists of five components:
Miniature push-button
Electronic control installed in the seat post
200 watt drive unit with free-wheel
Lithium-Ion Manganese (LiMn) battery pack 4.5 Ah / 30V or Lithium-Ion Manganese battery pack 6.75 AH / 30V
External battery charger
The auxiliary drive, with a length of almost 8.5 inches and 200 watts of power, is permanently connected with the crank through a bevel gear unit. Not only is gear changing is still possible, but you are also able to use the motor assist through the pedals. This system has a 100% freewheel so that when the motor is not activated, the bike simply acts like a regular bike. When the system is on, the rider gets electrically boosted by the Gruber Assist, with 200 watts of extra power.

(12,157 posts)the front is so easy to install. Remove the front wheel, install the motor wheel, run the wire and mount battery and controller. They claim 5 minutes but I would say 1/2 an hour, because I do these things slow and methodical, that's the wisdom that comes with age. So I keep telling myself.
