Why? Simple, it will be easier to defeat him by either Sanders or Clinton.
As I posted back in the summer, Trump will be able to get many votes from Democrats just as Reagan did. Twice. He will revert to his former self - pro choice. He does support a universal heath insurance "like Canada" and, I've heard, he also supports the government negotiating with drug manufacturers.
I don't know about gay marriage, but I can't see him against. Perhaps I am wrong.

(39,343 posts)What if we were attacked or there were an incident where there were no viable Dem? I think we could survive an accidental Trump presidency more than a Cruz one if for no other reason than Trump isn't a fundy christian dominionist. Cruz's daddy thinks jr is Jesus come back to earth. That's some serious dangerous crazy.

(6,592 posts)Never thought I'd say this, but I'm rooting for Rubio, just in case. Virtually all Rs are evil, but the other two are evil and nuts.

First Speaker
(4,858 posts)...this country elected Nixon, twice. We elected Reagan twice. We elected Dubya, once. THis country is capable--more than capable--of electing Ted Cruz, especially if the endless smears of Hillary stick. And if he gets into the White House, game is over. The US will no longer exist as a liberal democracy, and I do not say that lightly. Better Trump any day...
question everything
(47,487 posts)of the American voters. Sadly.
In the 80s. I met a visitor from another country. Of all the people in this country, he asked, is Reagan the best you could do?
And today, Reagan would not fit in the rabid Republican party.

(39,313 posts).. cough .. go Trump it's true he's less dangerous than Cruz.

(43,182 posts)Cruz is so disliked by his own party, plus he just comes off as whiner in the face of adversity.
He'll push hard right policy, but when he doesn't get his way, he just seems to fold.
Whereas I just see Trump attempting to subvert any constitutional obstacles that would get in the way of him having his way.
I said it before, a Cruz presidency would be Bush-Cheney 2.0. A Trump presidency would be (Name your fascist dictator) 2.0.
Better the enemy we know that the one we don't know. We survived Bush-Cheney...barely, but we survived. I don't want to even know whether we'd survive a Trump presidency. And ideology is the least of my worries with him. I'm talking about sheer force of ego.

The video with his daughter was horrible to watch. Forcing himself on his little girl, & then his creepy eyes. <shudder>

(20,851 posts)Trump is a grandstanding racist... he should be easy to beat. Cruz is a religious zealot that has already damaged this country from the senate. I can't imagine him as president.

(10,362 posts)Something shocking from the email thing. Suddenly whoever the Republicans nominate will be the winner. President Cruz... fuck no. He is an ultra-religious sociopath. No to Mullah Cruz.
If we slip up, I want the most liberal candidate they have. Kasich would have been ideal. Unfortunately he won't make it. Rand is at least not a moron, but he also has too little support. So Bush or Trump are probably the only realistic insurance policies.
Rubio is ultra-military. He'd drain every tax dollar to build it back up for military adventurism. Again, fuck no.
just pushed Kasich yesterday. Look for his bump.
I do NOT want to look at Kasich's "bump" -- that's disgusting
question everything
(47,487 posts)but I think that he is too mellow and, dare I say rational? for the current Republican voters.
May be too late.
