"Patriots" as Traitors: The Great Western Land Grab.

The Great Western Land Grab: Ad Nauseum and Funded by You

.... Since its inception in 2012, the [American Lands Council] has been working with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a conservative front group backed by the oil and gas industry and billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, to pass state-level legislation demanding that the federal government turn over federally owned national forests and public lands to Western states. ....

For twenty years, writer, historian, critic, activist Bernard DeVoto wrote a column, The Easy Chair, for the venerable magazine, and by the time this passage from “The West Against Itself” was published in 1947, DeVoto had already played an instrumental role in converting a land-grab fever into the 1946 formation of the Bureau of Land Management, thus preventing a potential sell-off of the West. It wasn’t the first time ranchers, energy interests, and developers had demanded private ownership of public lands, and it wouldn’t be the last. ...............

[center]So, what will it take to steal all the land in the West, over half of the Western States?
Just stupid people voting for right-wing extremists! First, whip up the stupid.

Oregon standoff has roots in Mormon fanaticism

...The Bundys’ challenge to federal authority has deep roots in the church’s history. After an angry mob lynched Mormon’s founding father Joseph Smith in 1844, every man entering the church swore an “oath of vengeance” against the United States ....

When the Mormons reached Utah in 1847, Smith’s successor Brigham Young founded the breakaway state of Deseret .... US troops invaded Mormon Utah in 1857. Last-minute diplomacy narrowly averted a bloodbath.

.... Bundys likewise believe that Washington politicians have hijacked the Constitution ....

Bundy said that his local Mormon bishop had considered “releasing,” or expelling, him from the church, but then thought better of it. “Once I explained the Lord’s involvement” in the Bundys’ politics, Ammon said, the bishop “said he understands and has felt some of the things I have felt.”

.... according to an official statement released Monday afternoon in Salt Lake City. “This armed occupation can in no way be justified on a scriptural basis. We . . . live in a nation where conflicts with government or private groups can — and should — be settled using peaceful means, according to the laws of the land.”

PLI fails to protect America’s treasures, including Bears Ears, so Obama should
By Scott Groene Feb 06 2016

Rep. Rob Bishop recently unveiled his draft legislation for the public lands of eastern Utah — what he calls the "Public Lands Initiative" (PLI). Unfortunately, it is a fossil fuel development bill that would roll back wilderness protection and further the state's land grab efforts.

The PLI actually grew out of a congressional hearing on America's Red Rock Wilderness Act in 2009. First introduced by Utah Rep. Wayne Owens, the act would designate roughly 9.5 million of the 23 million acres of Bureau of Land Management land in the state as wilderness.

At the 2009 hearing, the Utah senators and representatives testified in unison that the act should be put on hold while they were given a chance to resolve Utah's wilderness issues.

Seven years later, the PLI shows that the delegation has failed.

The draft PLI is an assault on our public lands. It dedicates more land to permanent fossil fuel development than it conserves as wilderness. It opens up lands currently managed like wilderness ............

Oh, Hey, I’ll Take That 33,000 Acres If Adrian Sewell Doesn’t Want It
An open letter asserting a claim to the grazing rights renounced by a Bundy sympathizer. By Martin Cizmar

To Whom it May Concern at the Department of the Interior and Bureau of Land Management,

My name is Martin Cizmar and I am writing to assert my claim to the grazing rights to 33,000 acres of New Mexico land, which were recently renounced by a Mr. Adrian Sewell of Silver City, New Mexico. Assuming I am first in time, I would like to immediately file whatever paperwork is required, and pay the $1.69 necessary to put my first cow-calf pair on this acreage.

I understand Mr. Sewell is very upset about having to pay these modest fees on land. I will be happy to pay those fees, because I believe they are quite a good bargain rate for using public land to make my living. I am happy to follow whatever rules apply to my cow-calf pair.

.... I intend to name my cows Juniper and Sagebrush. The llama's just called llama. Assuming the brand shape "Flying F" is still available, I would like to register it, as it is symbolic of my deeply held concerns about the difficulties the previous occupier of my land dealt with during his stewardship. ..............

What Harney County safety committee wants (OPINION)

The Harney County Safety Committee hosted a town hall meeting in downtown Burns, Or., Jan 8, 2016. The group formed last week to press grievances against the government.
Guest Column February 07, 2016 ... the Harney County Committee of Safety ... co-written by Harney County Committee of Safety Executive Committee members Chris Briels, Rick Habein, Melodi Molt, Tim Smith, Duane Schrock and Travis Williams.

The Harney County Committee of Safety wants to be clear about its intent. Since forming in mid-December 2015, we have maintained open lines of communication with all who attempted a dialogue, which included members of the occupiers' protest at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. ...

.... We have grown to 106 county resident members out of a voting population of about 2,900. As we move forward, working together in our county, torn by such unexpected events, we continue to focus on what brought us to form this committee: Dwight and Steven Hammond, our neighbors and our friends who are now in federal prison .......

I mean reparations.

Thank you for the heads-up on some very important history, L. Coyote!

J Edgar Hoover like to hire SACs with Mormon backgrounds. Same for those saying they're friends of Allen Dulles.
