Diana stepped out of the car behind him, wearing that incredible black dress?

Well, I think Michelle created a similar jaw-dropping stir with her black Vera Wang gown at that Chinese state dinner, and Pres. Obama is just about exploding with pride. He said, when he "presented" her for their first dance at their first inaugural ball something like, "Isn't she incredible!" It seem obvious that he really feels that way about her.

That whole darned family is beautiful. They are all so smart, decent, charming, funny, self-deprecating, and personable that they don't need to be beautiful, too. It is pleasant, though, that they are such a delight to look at, isn't it.

wear it because it was "too daring" for the wife of the heir to the throne. But that night she was so pissed and resentful that she threw caution to the wind and decided to publicly rub Charles's nose in the sheer fact that she was an internationally admired icon of glamor and sex appeal.

that she wore to some charity event with Prince Charles while she was still just Lady Diana Spencer. That was the first time that her attire raised a royal fuss in the United Kingdom and it also made the fashion world take notice of her style.

But there were two different times that she stunned Great Britain and especially the Royals by digging out her cleavage, barely covering it in black, which went against royal protocol...the first when she was a shy unmarried teen and the second after she'd long been used and abused by those blue bloods.

Princess Di was not single in those first pics posted by tblue37, but you're right that she was sending Charles and his entire crew a clear message. She stood on her own in that little black dress.

These pictures were taken after things totally broke down between them. It was dubbed by the press as her "I'll show you!" dress. The incident you were referring to was the first formal event they went to together after announcing their engagement.

My dad told me that the reason Edward VIII abdicated on 1936 was probably because he didn't want to fight his cousins and saw war coming. Also he and the Duchess were good friends with Hitler. The business about the woman he loved was just a convenient public relations excuse. Sounds plausible for me. He, David, was apparently a lot brighter and more charming than his brother. There is a famous quote from their father to the effect that David would ruin himself within a year upon the throne, and that he prayed that Lilibet would assume the throne someday. Because she was serious and dutiful. Which is exactly what happened.

She and Barack are very attractive and elegant. They look great in their clothes because they are tall and slim. That makes them very photogenic. These are basic fashion design concepts. And some people just can't stand that combined wit their skin color. And their Ivy League educations. Hell, I don't think of Barack as a black man. I just think of him as the President.

to have such attractive people representing us, since their personal qualities--character, intelligence, etc.--are as impressive as their good looks.

Their daughters are equally lovely and charming, too, which matters, because their good behavior reflects well on their parents' childrearing practices.

The Bush offspring, even going back to when W himself was a young fella (fists up, drunk as a skunk, and threatening to fight his dad "mano a mano&quot , have never been as well behaved as the children of the Carters, Clintons, and Obamas. Nor have the Bush family's offspring seemed to be as committed to public and community service. I do believe the Dem presidents have made a more serious effort to avoid turning their kids into spoiled little rich kids. I remember reading several journalists' comments on Chelsea when they observed her on diplomatic trips during Clinton's presidency. One comment I remember verbatim called Chelsea a "serene and charming presence."

When my daughter, then 20 and doing a study-abroad semester in Englad, ran into Chelsea while touring Oxford, Chelsea was very sweet and charming to Becky and her friends. When after a brief chat one of the friends asked for pictures, my Becky got embarrassed and said to Chelsea, "Oh, I'm so sorry! You don't have to do pictures!" Chelsea just laughed and said it was fine. No problem at all.

I have always thought the Dem presidents during my lifetime had really nice, down to earth kids. That includes, by the way, the Kennedy kids and LBJ's daughters. None of them have come across as being full of themselves, and if course none of them have behaved badly or out of control in public. They all seem to have recognized that their behavior would reflect on their parents and, fair or not, on the country.
