But Dr John IS the Voice of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
I was lucky enough to live within 2 blocks of Tipitina's in uptown New Orleans, and Dr John played there frequently along with the other great musicians from New Orleans.
Unfortunately, I am currently sitting in the middle of the woods in Arkansas, and missing by home town today.

But it's a really wonderful earworm, so thank you!

I had no idea you were originally from New Orleans! I only knew you as a Minnesota guy who moved south.

The closest I've ever been to Mardi Gras was when my musician husband brought home this record album in 1976:

I'm very lucky to have had the opportunity to live in several very different parts of our nation,
but my heart belongs to New Orleans and the Kajan Coast of Louisiana where I was born and raised.

In all the threads that appear on DU posted by geographical bigots about Breaking Up the Nation,
I always respond,
"I don't care WHAT you do, but I'm staying in the part that gets New Orleans".
Love the People.
Love the Food.
Love the history.
Love the Music.
Love the unique traditions.
Did I already say I love the Food,
cuase that deserves to be mentioned twice.

I also love Minnesota.
A crystal clear Winter morning after a snowfall when the temp drops to -20 is spectacular.
Initially, I found the food to be bland, until I discovered Lake Ave and the myriad of ethnic restaurants.

Love the Mardi Gras Indian graphic you posted, and have copied it to mu collection.
Thanks.
