It's not just Christians who can be idiots at times...

I mean, people go to work, to actually work. Not go to work to pray.

Muslim advocacy group filing complaint over Ariens break policy

The Council on American-Islamic Relations announced Monday it is filing a complaint with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Milwaukee over a break policy at Ariens in Brillion.

CAIR held a news conference in Green Bay to announce it is pursuing legal options.

Some of the company’s Muslim workers say the Ariens break policy violates their right to pray.

In January, Ariens told employees it would be enforcing the company policy of two scheduled breaks lasting 10 minutes. The company said some non-Muslim workers had raised concerns about other employees taking unscheduled breaks to pray. CEO Dan Ariens said the company needed to address the issue to minimize the impact on assembly lines.

Fourteen Muslim workers resigned over the policy. Seven workers were fired for not following break protocol. Thirty-two workers chose to stay on the job and abide by the break policy.

1. There are some Jewish people who cannot work on the Sabbath. Employers find comprises.

They should be able to find a compromise at Ariens as well. Devout Muslims should have an accomodation for their religion at work.

Heck, the freedom of religion laws that allow Christian pharmacists to refuse to dispense BC pills probably apply here.

3. Those "freedom" rules should not be in effect also.

"I don't believe in giving out this pill, so you can't have it! I don't care what the doctor says!"

The "Hobby Lobby" decision was just as stupid.

Religion is the biggest crock of absolute bullshit ever created, and causes more misery than even the worst political philosophy.

Giving exceptions at work due to crackpot beliefs should *NOT* be allowed. Period.

5. I think we will get to the point where religion will not get to dictate policies.

However, neither of us will see that day.

6. The standard is "resonable accommodation"

Given the information in the article, CAIR has a pretty good case because it appears no "reasonable accommodation" was made.

8. It would be interesting to know the specifics of this case.

Based on this article, it doesn't seem like CAIR would jump on something if "reasonable accommodation" had been made.
