Being skeptical about the Peyton Manning sexual assault allegations from nearly 20 years ago does not make you a bad person.
Expressing doubts and withholding judgment about the details of 20-year-old eventsas recounted and amended in 15-year-old, one-sided court documents, as summarized and sensationalized last week by a tabloid provocateurdoes not make you sexist, racist, reactionary, closed-minded, a victim-blamer or part of the problem.
Skepticism of salacious or incriminating claims actually makes you a better citizen, not a worse one. A little critical thinking makes you a better voter and a better juror. It makes you a better consumer, student, parent and worker.
It's OK to not rush to judgment and declare Peyton Manning a monster.

I thought it would be good to provide a little balance to the "Peyton is such a sexist pig and he's a racist too" party going on in the other thread.

The person writing this article seems to be a Peyton Manning fan boy. Sean King wrote the article about Peyton Manning to show the difference in the way Peyton Manning and Cam Newton have been treated. King's point was that Manning had been given a pass throughout his career and had not been criticized for things for which Newton would have been criticized. King wanted to negate the idea that Peyton Manning was a squeaky clean athlete while Cam Newton was a thug.
I do believe a judge did ruled that there was at least enough evidence to prove that Manning attempted to defame Mrs. Naughright. Are we really to believe that Peyton Manning would not have been able to find one person to support his claim if he was in fact telling the truth? Are we supposed to disregard the letter his former teammate supposedly wrote to him telling him to just tell the truth? Why would the former teammate lie in the letter which he probably never thought would be made public?

Party B days later has a lawsuit from events 20 years ago that makes all the headlines.
I know they settled out of court once. Guess she wants seconds? Isn't there some kind of statute of limitations?
NaturalHigh
(12,778 posts)Actually it would be thirds. She has already collected twice - once from Manning and once from the University of Tennessee.

(68,918 posts)I just ran another search, and there is nothing to indicate that Jamie Naughright had anything to do with this coming out...

Now Betsy Andreu, a stay-at-home mom and University of Michigan graduate, is urging Naughright to come forward about what happened between her and the then-19-year old quarterback in 1996 if she is legally able

Her career was destroyed. I would have settled out of court too with no other career options available to her. As a woman, I find this post extremely distasteful and disrespectful. By all means, continue to besmirch a woman who has yet to say anything publicly about this.
In a nutshell, it is Saxon's testimony and his email that convinced me on this matter. (and I lost friends for backing Manning in the Saints v. Colts SB because I don't feel NOLA "deserved" a victory any more than any other American city). It's kind of a bummer to see he's a pig. I already knew his father had an ego the size of NYC. Unfortunate story that I happen to believe after reviewing the story.

(2,931 posts)If she files the suit or whatever else, it will be Naughright. And another point as to your response:
"Now Betsy Andreu, a stay-at-home mom and University of Michigan graduate, is urging Naughright to come forward about what happened between her and the then-19-year old quarterback in 1996 if she is legally able "
So either way, the pronoun stands...
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)I doubt she wants anything to do with it. Assuming "she" is behind this would make that old cliche true. "She" appears to have no comment on this.
There has been nothing to support a new suit being filed. This is a story. Nothing more. So don't take it out on her.
GummyBearz
(2,931 posts)Whether it was BS or not, I am unsure of. Time will tell. I think I can use the pronoun "she" in my post. If you read it again it was ended with questions regarding whats going on, not accusations. I have no idea why you are taking such an issue with the use of a pronoun, but it is very uninteresting now. Feel free to get in the last word, I wont be replying anymore though
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)That's it. This is called debating/calling out. You made an incorrect assumption about this woman and this story. I corrected you. The rest of your post is avoidance.

(2,931 posts)How many people want to argue over the use of pronouns this morning? I don't know who this jade was, but getting out of really boring discussions is a nice skill to have. Btw, I made no allegations, read the posts again.

(68,918 posts)It has to do with "Guess she wants seconds?" "She" has nothing to do with this latest story coming out.

It's often much more convenient to trivialize than to analyze... as our bias often depends on doing so.

(17,111 posts)It came to light again because the incident with Manning was recently cited in a Title IX lawsuit brought by 6 women against the University of Tennessee. She is not party to that.
In addition, Peyton Manning broke the nondisclosure agreement by what was written in a biography. Then it was broken again in a documentary. Naughright sued both times. She lost her job when the book came out.
Both incidents were settled. However, affadavits were given in the first suit. Peyton's claims were not supported. That is why a lot of new info is out. Without that book, the affadavits nd such would not have happened.
If he had left it alone after the first incident, it might be written off as one bad decision. However, by trashing her in his book, he went after her again with more lies. The documentary was the third time she had to del with it. NOTE: She did not start these last two fights either. She sued because of Peyton's skeevy actions. I would have sued too.
Peyton was a complete dumbass for letting what he said be printed in that book.

(68,918 posts)This is a point I was trying to make further upthread where some were speculating on the accuser having something to do with this. (the ghostwriter and Saxon are actually what convinced me)

(12,778 posts)I like Peyton Manning, but I couldn't care less about the Broncos as a team. The only reason I pulled for them in the Super Bowl was so Peyton could ride off into the sunset with another ring.
