(14,400 posts)when I watched it and found it really good at that age. I read the book a couple of years after that.
As long as the kids who are watching it can critically digest the material it's a really good show for teaching some of the darker history of this country.

(182,868 posts)I remember at school the "Did you see it?" excitement akin to Tuesday morning after Monday Night Football.
Thanks for making me do the math. Our girl is 10 and she's way smarter and mature than I was then.

(8,012 posts)My daughter was fairly young when she saw it (maybe 6 or 7) but some kids just aren't ready for that sort of thing until later. I can't say she understood everything at that age, but it sure didn't hurt her.

Her education has been remarkable. They have fully addressed the myths of the Pilgrims and other things of history (Columbus), the Civil War (we live in Richmond), and directly discussing WWII. This is public education and I agree with most of the curriculum.

(21,754 posts)Then one of those precious 8th graders, a boy who was always starting trouble, started making a huge issue out of the breasts shown in the African village. Rather than deal with this little creep's nonsense, I stopped showing it. If I had the preference, i would have just thrown him out of class for the rest of the semester. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. So this little big mouth spoiled it for the entire class. I have never forgotten that.
