While watching Ted Cruz' concession speech in SC a moment ago, I thought about how pundits have been saying today that the Establishment will probably pick Rubio as the Republican candidate this year, because he's marginally less repulsive. In his concession speech, Cruz kept repeating that he's a strict constitutionalist who will protect rights of religion, traditional marriage, guns, etc. Wonder if he's bucking for an appointment to the Supreme Court. . .

(3,030 posts)Who better to continue Fat Tony's legacy? And he is only 40 some odd years old, so he'd be around a long, long time. He also clerked under Rehnquist.

(17,865 posts)to back Rubio against Trump. Cruz may realize he has no path to the nomination. A Supreme Court Justice at his age can actually mean more than being the President, and, after 10-15 years on the bench, he could look at resigning and trying again for the Presidency.
Truly a terrifying possibility.
Very interesting theory; elect the pretty/dumb one, and save the evil/dangerous one for where he can do the most damage.

But they do like his message/philosophy. This would take him out of his Senate shenanigans, and would save him for where he can do the most damage.
