He convinced teachers, administrators, even law enforcement and a car dealership he had just been appointed to fill the seat of State Senator Dave Burke.
Turns out, that whole story was a lie.
"He basically decieved and conned some people," says Ken Ratliff, Superintendent of the Mohawk Local School District.

Akins is now facing felony charges of telecommunications fraud and impersonating a peace officer.

(3,457 posts)The kid wasn't doing anything heroic.
By the way, how did he "borrow" a car from a dealership?
Botany
(70,552 posts)He told them that he was the new St. Senator and they let him use it.
BTW Izaha Aklins is my new hero!

(70,552 posts)This is one of the best cons ever ..... btw the St. Senator he punked voted
to defund planned parenthood in OH ...... now that is something to be pissed
off about.
18 and to pull this off?
Orrex
(63,219 posts)No reason why we can't be pissed off about the asshole State Senator while recognizing that Akins committed multiple crimes.
I suspect that if he'd punked Planned Parenthood in a similar attempt to make them look foolish and ineffectual, the same people who are praising him now would be calling for jail time.
Botany
(70,552 posts)Life is too short to be pissed off about a case of "butt hurt."
For God's sake he told the teacher that the prior state senator
was quitting because for "health reasons" and that he got appointed
in a special way that nobody had ever heard of?
And yes the kid played the system like a fiddle so make
him and his friends do a little community service and then
turn it into a movie.

(18,133 posts)but frankly, doing exactly that is sometimes very important.
The Senator sounds like a jerk. It's possible that the teacher and/or school admin deserved to be knocked down a peg or two as well.
Botany
(70,552 posts)"well somepeople were conned."
Orrex
(63,219 posts)He stole a car. That's a crime, even if he returned it.
He impersonated a state senator. That's a crime, even if he was joking.
For some bizarre reason you find this charming. By your silly logic, the faked videos intended to implicate Planned Parenthood were just fine and dandy, because "nobody was hurt and nothing of value was damaged."

Don't let Orrex come on the Vegas trip, he's only going to be a wet blanket and take the fun out of everything.
Now please show me exactly where I posted this meme?

Someone who assists another 1) who has committed a felony, 2) after the person has committed the felony, 3) with knowledge that the person committed the felony, and 4) with the intent to help the person avoid arrest or punishment. An accessory after the fact may be held liable for, inter alia, obstruction of justice.

In other words, according to your assertion, a crime requires either personal harm or property damage. As such, the faked videos intended to implicate Planned Parenthood, which caused neither personal harm nor property damage, do not constitute a crime. Further, since the videos were a prank intended to embarrass and inconvenience, they are not entirely dissimilar to Izaha Akins' prank intended to embarrass and inconvenience.

Well damn so what do you want me to do with the plane tickets and hotel reservations?
