Yet, the opponents and the media rarely call him out on this. Of course, we know that his lies reinforce the Republican bubble of ignorance and alternate reality. Will the wider electorate recognize that his rants are a load of manure?

(3,457 posts)Luntz may not understand why Trumps supporters are so persistently devoted, but their behavior is similar to what Ive seen from people who are committed to anti-science beliefs.
In a 2014 study, Brendan Nyhan and several other researchers found that when parents with negative feelings about vaccines were presented with evidence that vaccines do not cause autism, they actually reported being less likely to vaccinate their children. The corrective information had a negative effect.
(During the September GOP debate, by the way, Donald Trump falsely blamed vaccines for autism and said a vaccine looks just like its meant for a horse, not for a child.)

(721 posts)Like when he exposes and trashes the Bush cabal.
When we say it, they brush it off. When Trump says it, some may listen.
So I don't brand him a liar. His other lies are par for the course for the cesspool party.
But he tells the truth about the biggest liars of all - Bush and company.
I can't summon any animus toward Trump - plus he is eminently beatable in Nov.

(3,457 posts)For most voters 9/11 and Iraq are ancient history and that is probably the last you will hear of it.
I don't know that he is eminently beatable. I never believed that George Bush Jr. could win or even get close enough to steal the Presidency and yet he did.

(721 posts)But the fact remains he said it. And it got more exposure and coverage than any Democrat would get from the "liberal" (laugh) media.
He may repeat the truth, especially if questioned during the campaign. If for no other reason, Trump's candidacy has merit.
