Dear trolls...

I'm not sure if this falls outside of the rules of this site or not... if it does, allow me to apologize in advance, but I felt this was important.

Trolling, is not okay. End of story. It just isn't. I often disagree with comments posted within the Hillary group... but it IS their group, and, in spite of having been banned from posting there, I alerted on this personal attack of one of their members.

Please consider this an advisement. Personal attacks are just not okay. If you take issue with something someone has stated, refute it! Please by all means, add to the conversation! We certainly need more of that.

Personal attacks and insults, however, are simply beyond the pale... and will be given the short-shrift they deserve, at least, by this Bernie Sanders supporter.

AUTOMATED MESSAGE: Results of your alert

Mail Message

On Sat Feb 27, 2016, 12:15 PM you sent an alert on the following post:

Screw you tommy
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1107&pid=57690

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

YOUR COMMENTS

Bernie supporter here.... this is not acceptable. Please keep personal attacks off this site. This style of attack is not representative of Bernie supporters. Unsurprisingly, this is coming from a brand-new account. Trolls are unwelcome here...regardless of who they're here to attack.

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Sat Feb 27, 2016, 12:27 PM, and voted 7-0 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: What the alerter said. (And I also support Bernie, but we don't need this nastiness on our side!)
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Most inappropriate. Vile personal attacks are never acceptable, even in the heated atmosphere that has prevailed at DU lately.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No need for name-calling.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Hiding because this is a personal attack. The OP isn't exactly civil either but this post is against the rules and it's the one I was asked to decide.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: People like this give sane, reasonable Bernie supporters like myself a bad name.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: too far

Thank you.

I have had precisely one hide in my years here. I know of one other alert, which was in my favor.

I do not see alerts as a badge of honor, nor do I see the need to push things to the edge just short of an alert.

There has been much complaint about the jury system. My opinion is that if you are getting alerted on, maybe you are doing things wrong.

This is how I handle jury duty.

1. Personal attacks always earn a hide from me. Period! And I do not care whether it was aggravated. If the aggravator's post comes to my jury, I would hide that, too. I have even Alerted on such posts. There are no excuses for personal attacks here. None! If you cannot be polite, you make this a sucky place. Live with that.

2. Primary season here is confrontational. However, I might remind people that one can promote ones candidate without tearing down another Democratic candidate, who very might well become the nominee. I don't give a damn about the polling, one way or the other. However, it is certainly appropriate to cite polls, and endorsements. But Bernie said he was sick and tired of Hillary's e-mails. That should be enough to snuff out the Hillary e-mail posts. Just like we should no longer see the silly fucking "Bernie is not a Democrat" posts.

Those ships have sailed, DUers, far over the horizon.

We need to find a way to unite this year, no matter who obtains the nomination, even if it is somebody that you do not particularly like politically.

Because I assure you, no matter who the Democratic Party nominates for POTUS, the GOP's nominee will be far, far worse.

United we stand; divided we fall.
