It is about the Suprme Court!

I have been saying this on these pages in 2004 and in 2008, hoping to at least keep the 5-4 balance, realizing that the next vacancy could be by a liberal judge: Ginsburg or Breyer.

But listen to the right wing Club for Growth that has vowed to throw everything it got into defeating Trump, into electing a real conservative:

Mr. McIntosh’s (the president of the Club for Growth) concern escalated as the billionaire rose in the primaries even as polling showed that Mr. Trump would lose in November. “He loses the general. But his presence on the ticket also loses us the Senate,” he says. With the recent death of Justice Antonin Scalia, he adds, “that means we lose the Supreme Court too. And that’s the most devastating. You can win back the Senate in two; you can compete for the White House in four; but the court, you lose every issue for a generation.”

Thus, if you think that you will placate your conscience by not voting in November, think about this issue.

I will kick this until November.

that will eventually be accepted prior to end of his term.

Then the next president will nominate a moderate or conservative choice - unless we elect Bernie - then I predict a progressive choice.

However, Sanders could expect contributions of my time and money if he's the nominee while Clinton could not. The nastiness of her campaign and supporters and the lengths they went to to alienate Sanders supporters convinced me they're confident enough that she can win this thing without us. Well, they'll get a chance to prove it.

I don't remember any presidential election year when my initial choice ended up the nominee. But in November I did vote for him.

Let's remember that in 1968 many liberals stayed home, did not trust Humphrey enough to end the Vietnam war and we ended up with Nixon.

In hindsight, Nixon today would be viewed as a liberal by the tebaggers and their ilks.

Moderate, at best, if picked by Obama, Clinton, or Trump.

Only Sanders would pick a liberal.

Trump, it's less clear. He might pick a more moderate judge. Trump doesn't seem to be a fundie like Cruz or Santorum.

Hillary to put a liberal judge on the court. Obama was willing to nominate a Republican governor in order to get the Republicans to accept the nomination. I believe Hillary will do the same.

whoever he or she is.

We sometimes forget how the Supreme Court has shaped so much of our lives. We remember Roe v Wade, and last year's confirmation of marriage - regardless of gender.

But there were Brown v. Board of Education declaring that segregated schools are not equal.

Gideon v. Wainwright - the right for an attorney even if you cannot afford one

Miranda v. Arizona - we all know about "Miranda's right"

Loving v. Virginia - right for interracial marriage

Lawrence v. Texas - right of same sex people for consensual sex.

And many more.

people, a business can impose it's religious will on it's employees (Hobby Lobby), struck down Voting Rights Act because we're in a post-racial society, they're about to overturn affirmitave action at colleges (which really isn't AA but rather a college has the right to diversify their student body rather than go solely with test scores and SATs, they have been ranked the most conservative court since the 20's and the most business-friendly in history.

If you don't think scotus is as important as the Preident, remember it was the scotus who appointed George W. Bush president.
