What's the best example of folks who threw the nastiest dirt in the primaries...

... And then came out to support the eventual nominee?

All this childish news with trump and Rubio just makes me wonder.

Is it worse this time or is it always like this and in the end they all fall in line?

She even hinted at a GOPer, Mccain, being a better option than her opponent.

3. There was no great love lost between John McCain and Dubya in 2000, IIRC.

As I remember it Bush put some nasty stuff out about McCain's adopted daughter.

McCain had to grudgingly come out and endorse the guy, but I dont think he ever forgave him.

LBJ ran against JFK in the primaries in 1960. I haven't read much about that primary campaign but I'd guess LBJ threw a lot of dirt. And then became JFK's running mate and Vice President.
