(58,785 posts)right before then for committing very, very serious felonies. Not a vendetta impeachment out of spite like the GOP's attempt against Clinton, but impeachment for grave cause.
As for "not even there," Democrats agreed to not impeach and proceed to remove Reagan from office if Senator Howard Baker would become Reagan's Chief of Staff and give the White House back on track legally. That's how bad it was. A chief of staff appointed to give direction to his president.
Regarding Obama, this was after all the Iran Contra revelations had seriously demoralized the nation, so I'm thinking a lousy 7-point superiority over Reagan at this point is nothing to cheer about.
But it's not about Obama himself. The approval rating is not as high as it should be because of the demoralization and mindless opposition to government that ultraconservatives have worked so long to develop in the American people. They can only destroy government when the people have stopped protecting it.

(80,708 posts)I believe he has been quietly transformative in ways which have brought some important aspects of this society finally into the 21st century. At least a bit, at least in some places.
And about damn time.
