Trump supporters are inoculated against the truthBy Kathleen Parker at the Washington Post
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trump-supporters-are-inoculated-against-the-truth/2016/03/01/08c6a12c-dff1-11e5-846c-10191d1fc4ec_story.html
"SNIP.............
This was apparent in Nevada when Trump won rural voters who should have belonged to Ted Cruz, based on the all-important public-lands issue. The federal government owns a whopping 84.9 percent of Nevadas land. Cruz promised he would return the land to the state; Trump said he wouldnt.
One insider told me that when Cruz researchers showed rural voters news video of the comments, most rejected the video as doctored. They were inoculated to any truth that ran contrary to their beliefs. Data be damned.
The irony is that this deep distrust of the establishment and the media is the Republican Partys own handiwork. Its leaders and operatives have been preaching for decades that the government and journalists cant be trusted.
The tragedy is that, of all those mentioned here, the most untrustworthy and dishonest is Trump. He undeniably lied a few days ago when he said he didnt know anything about David Duke in what otherwise would have been the easiest disavowal in political history. In fact, Trump specifically mentioned Duke in a 2000 interview that many have heard by now.

(5,722 posts)2. President Carter was campaigning for relection in Tuscumbria, Alabama in 1980..
Coming into the airport for his political rally, there were groups of KKK Klansmen in white sheets waving "Reagan for President" signs.
What makes Trump and the Republican party now, so different from Reagan and the Republicans from that era?

(10,650 posts)3. First, Kathleen Parker is a right wing shill.
Second, singling out the supporters of ANY republican candidate (and Parker is a supporter of one) as inoculated from the truth is absurd. THEY ALL ARE. If you are a republican, you and the truth don't even have a passing acquaintance.
Third, anyone who listens to Parker either knows nothing about her or has a very strange agenda.

(118,778 posts)4. I post articles that have a new take on the issues. I don't agree with all KP says. But I thought it
would further the discussion. The point about the incredulity being turned on the GOP themselves, and them realizing it, is a moment in time I want to remember.
