Lawyers for George Zimmerman, the man accused of fatally gunning down Florida teen Trayvon Martin, said there has been a jump in donations to his defense fund after his return to jail Sunday, and that the defense will seek his release in a second bond hearing.
Attorneys also acknowledged Monday that Zimmerman was confused and fearful when he and his wife misled court officials about their finances during the first bond hearing in April that allowed him to be released from Seminole County Jail.
Zimmerman, 28, was ordered to return behind bars because his $150,000 bond was revoked by a Florida judge after prosecutors claimed Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, deceived the court during the bond hearing.
While Mr. Zimmerman acknowledges that he allowed his financial situation to be misstated in court, the defense will emphasize that in all other regards, Mr. Zimmerman has been forthright and cooperative, his attorney, Mark OMara, said in an online statement.

(55,445 posts)If the state has the unmitigated gall to throw someone in prison for shooting a "suspicious" looking black teen on a whim, then a legal precedent gets set that they don't want...
(Speaking for myself as an African-American, I know goddamned well what's at stake on my side, too)

(46,231 posts)increase the value of the bond for Zimmerman to be released?

(24,634 posts)That's if he's given a chance at posting bail. He just might be denied.

I'm sure that the next audit will be much more "exhaustive" than the previous one.

(24,634 posts)That says to me he knew what the fuck he was doing. He and his wife did it intentionally because they knew he wouldn't be getting out so easily because of said money. And yet, and yet...now he is "confused and fearful." This is not a game, this is not just any misdemeanour's action. What George Zimmerman did, excluding the SYG aspect is called, 'kill someone!'
He even spoke in code about the passport. Even about the bloody passport...which leans to the fact even the O'Mara might be playing a dangerous game as well.

(50,507 posts)and his lawyer is lying his ass off, imo. Zimmerman, his wife and his family knew full well what they were doing when they deliberately lied in court about the money.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/95593851/State-v-Zimmerman-Motion-to-revoke-bondO'Mara's hair must have stood on end when he read in the motion that Zimmerman had a second passport and appeared to be hiding it deliberately -- he told his wife, "You hold on to that." I believe O'Mara made up the story about forgetting that Zimmerman had given him the second passport a month ago in an effort to preserve what little credibility his client has left.

(24,634 posts)I don't get what O'Mara was thinking since there is so much evidence that suggests that Zimmerman lied to him. O'Mara should have asked...although this Zimmerman cat has a nasty habit of conveniently 'forgetting' shit, if he [Zimmerman] had discussed this with his wife in code.
For god's sakes. I have never seen a chronic liar like Zimmerman and I'm sorry for his amount of lying I sincerely doubt that he will be given bond, unless it's an astronomical number.

(14,881 posts)So the recorded conversation states that Zimmerman instructed Mrs. to hold onto the 2nd passport.
versus the attorney's word that she instead turned the 2nd passport in to him?
That's really stretching the limits. While Mara is obligated to provide a vigorous defense, perjury is grounds to lose his license. Of course, it can't be proved and from what I've read the judge chose to believe the attorney. Giving him enough rope to hang himself, next time in a way that can be proven?

(24,634 posts)I feel sort of bad that O'Mara basically let his ambition get in the way of his ethics. Because it's obvious by the court dealings that Zimmerman is a dangerous man who is not as dumb or even as smart as he think he is.
