... Citadel alumni started the “Take It Down Movement,” which involves a number of former athletes. Forney sent out a tweet last summer after the Board of Visitors vote saying, “Finally Flag is going to come down from Chapel on The Citadel campus.”

State Sen. Marlon Kimpson and state Rep. Seth Whipper, both Charleston Democrats, have introduced bills in the Senate and House, respectively, that would allow The Citadel to remove the flag from the chapel. But neither bill has gained traction in the Legislature.

If approved, the bills would give public institutions of higher learning the authority to remove and relocate Civil War flags.

Kimpson said the president, the board and alumni of The Citadel, as well as City Council, are saying they want the flag out of the chapel. “For the General Assembly to say ‘no’ is ridiculous” ...

Charleston City Council is set to vote on a resolution that if passed would voice city officials’ support for removing the Confederate Naval Jack from The Citadel’s Summerall Chapel.

Protected from removal under the South Carolina Heritage Act, the controversial flag has come under increased scrutiny following last June’s shooting at Emanuel AME Church that claimed the lives of nine African-American parishioners and spurred the removal of the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds in July.

The resolution before City Council cites efforts by Citadel alumni and officials to remove the Confederate Naval Jack from the school’s chapel. The resolution would also call for support of a bill put forth by state Sen. Marlon Kimpson to amend the Heritage Act to allow for the flag to be taken down and placed in a museum. Under current legislation, a two-thirds vote by each branch of the state General Assembly is required to remove “monuments or memorials erected on public property.”

Kimpson’s bill would allow for flags of the American Civil War on display in chapels in public institutions of higher learning to be relocated if approved by the institution’s board of directors. In a decision last June, The Citadel Board of Visitors voted 9 to 3 for removal of the Confederate Naval Jack from the Summerall Chapel ...

Citadel. She hasn't said anything about this - I wonder how she is feeling? She is living in MO now and we do not get to talk like we used to.

I join those who want the flag moved elsewhere.

graduate in an atmosphere that was bad even with the racism. Females were not welcomed at that time.

But yes she is a very strong woman. I am extremely proud of her.
