He's been dealing with the fallout ever since.
France's decision to personally back the front-runner for the Republican nomination has roiled a sport his family built from the ground up. It's threatened a decade of work to broaden NASCAR's appeal among minorities, upset one of the most powerful teams in the sport and risked a break with the corporate sponsors that are its financial lifeblood.
"I was frankly, very surprised, that my diversity efforts for my whole career would have been called into question, over this, in my view, a routine endorsement," France said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press.
France acknowledged he's had to have conversations with sponsors since making the endorsement, which came as NASCAR is seeking a new main sponsor for its top series.

Yeah Right! Hundreds of millions of dollars invested in a world wide racing empire and no one told him this was not such a good idea, that there wouldn't be blow back???
Anyone has the right to be a fool on their own time. It takes a real class act to do it in front of the whole world.
What are the sponsors, advertisers and broadcasters going to do? Post a Disclaimer before each race and interview? Blank the video of their slogans on the cars?

(7,901 posts)Not to mention the drivers and team members who don't align with Trump and his racist trash talk. I don't know how I'd show up for work after my boss made my company complicit with Trump's violent hate speech.

(7,901 posts)That the CEO would align himself with a man who so denigrates Hispanic people gives the appearance that the entire sport is still as racist as once indeed it was.
There are premier drivers in NASCAR and Indycar who come from quite diverse backgrounds and represent not only millions of people in their home countries but multiple millions of dollars in sponsorship and advertising here and abroad.
This looks about as foolish as it gets.
