Gallup: Obama's Approval at Three Year High

President Barack Obama’s job approval has hit an almost three-year high among Americans, according to Gallup.

Fifty-percent of Americans approve of Obama’s performance as the country’s chief executive, the highest level since May 2013. This is an uptick from his average approval rating during his seventh year in office, which was 46 percent, according to Gallup.

This is a direct reflection of the quality of candidates comprising this year's primaries fields.

for his party. This national mood can swing wildly and frivolously from week to week and overrides many other factors that should carry more weight. Let's just hope we're feeling good in November.

... unemployment is down as well.

It may be that the candidate who more closely ties themselves to President Obama's policies will have the winning strategy, and that ain't Bernie.

cosmetic disaster that President Obama can deal with in heroic and typically caring Democratic fashion.

Of the post-WW2 presidents who got to this stage, we have:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/124922/presidential-job-approval-center.aspx

Truman: 31% - party lost
Eisenhower: 64% - party lost
Reagan: 50% party won
Clinton: 63% - narrow popular vote for same party
GW Bush: 32% - party lost

I can't see that as a 'strong' correlation. The one time with a definite win for the president's party was GHW Bush following Reagan - who is in the midrange of popularity. Gore did get more votes for president, and arguably should have won Florida, but Eisenhower was just as popular as Clinton, and his party (and vice-president) lost.
