Barack Obama's approval ratings are rising again. For some, he never lived up to the hype in 2008, but for others, he's been the best President in a generation. With the election upon us, and looking back at the past 7+ years:
What are the 3 things Barack Obama has done of which you most approve?
What are the 3 things Barack Obama has done of which you most disapprove?
For me:
Approve:
1) The ACA - An imperfect solution, but far more than any other President has been able to do for the public at large to deliver healthcare.
2) Bailing out the US auto industry
3) Getting out ground troops out of Iraq
Honorable mention: Opposing the KXL
Disapprove:
1) I don't see what's being gained by having troops stay in Afghanistan
2) The stimulus in 2009 should have been more focused on direct aid to homeowners
3) Obama had a unique opportunity in '09 to break up Chase, Citi, BOA, and Wells Fargo. That was a huge miss.

ACA
Consistent lowering of unemployment - opportunity to lower it more - see below
The Iran deal
Disapprove:
No punishment or regulations on banks (if it's profitable and holds no risk they will do it again)
No true infrastructure program (People out of work + country falling apart = a huge opportunity to solve both problems)
His stance on education (no child left behind and national testing are disgraceful and destroying our school system - charter schools being the solution - no thanks - don't privatize the public school system - reform it by getting rid of testing and bringing back programs such as art and music)

Considering that, he is still going to go down in history as one the most influential and successful liberal presidents in history.

(5,790 posts)In the Senate, members work across parties behind the scenes on legislation, and generally get along. Ted Cruz seems to be the exception to this rule -- and even Corey Booker will say nice things about the guy. I think Obama really thought he could work with his Republican Senate colleagues to get things done.

(6,719 posts)1. ACA
2. Iran deal
3. His general graciousness and calm. Unbelievable in present circumstances, but he remains gracious and calm. Amazing.

2 great justices on the supreme court
MANY more good justices on the federal bench (allowing the 9 of 13 district courts to now be dominated by Democrats, when he first was elected 10 out of 13 were dominated by republicans)
The ACA (most things I approve, some I don't)
Disapprove
Not going after the freeking banks
Not saying the words radical Islam (makes him and Democrats look like idiots and weak)
Parts of the ACA - specifically allowing the drug companies and the insurance companies to continue to soak us
GOLGO 13
(1,681 posts)1. Killing Osama
2. ACA
3. Cuba/Iran deal (+points for driving Republincant's batshit insane is a bonus)
The not bad but could have been better
1. Didn't go after Wall Street harder
2. Didn't increase the level of drone strikes even further
3. Not winning both elections by a 60% threshold as opposed to a mere over 50% threshold.
Thanks OBAMA!!!
