The exchange started when host Joe Scarborough, a former U.S. representative from Florida, asked Scott if he would tell his friend, GOP front runner Donald Trump, to soften his rhetoric about Muslims.
Trump had in the past vowed to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. On Wednesday, he doubled down and told CNNs Anderson Cooper that I think Islam hates us. And we cant allow people coming into this country who have this hatred of the United States.
Would you tell your friend Donald Trump that he should walk back his statements that Muslims that Islam hates America and Islam hates us, Scarborough asked.
Scott only said that after the terrorist attacks in Paris, he asked for the federal government to halt certain refugees, adding hes still fairly certain that the U.S. governments not vetting them.

(15,384 posts)When Scott decided to not answer questions. I would love for the media to do this more often instead of just giving politicians carte blanche to go off on whatever they want whether it relates to the question asked or not. In fact, just being more aggressive and maybe pre-emptively calling them out would make my year.
Some dream scenarios...
"Well, it looks like the Senator doesn't want to answer our questions so I'm going to turn control back over to you guys in the studio to figure out what to do with the extra 5 minutes he could have had on national television."
"Oh, you're not a scientist yet you have an opinion on global warming. Thank you in advance for letting our viewers know that you lack the expertise to comment on this phenomena, and that we should actually poll the scientific community instead. Go ahead, congressman."
Of course, you would want to keep the cameras rolling on the reporters out in the field saying this for any potential Michael Grimms.
