Pundits totally out of touch with American culture.

Andrea Greenspan Mitchell just had former Governor Ed "Not Really A Democrat" Rendell on as a guest. Of course, Rendell was doing his best song and dance for Hillary Clinton, which he has done since day one. But, in attempting to trash Bernie Sanders, he said that Sanders was offering "Money for nothing and chicks for free," the title line of one of the most popular songs of the 1980s, by Dire Straits. It was also the score for the "amazing" (now incredibly hokey-looking) first computer-generated music video, and a staple on on cable tv back when MTV and even HBO used to play music videos. In short, it was a major hit song repeated ad nauseam on radio, television, everywhere.

Ms. Greenspan Mitchell looked shocked at the reference, and made some weird comment that sounded as if she thought Ed was making some sort of sexist remark. Ed looked equally shocked -- "You've never heard the song, 'Money for Nothing?'" Andrea said, no, she had no idea what he was talking about.

The trouble is, Andrea is illustrative of the people "reporting" on what is going on in America. They probably have never played "Money for Nothing" at the Greenspan cocktail parties in Washington, DC. That's the way you do it. Money for nothing and your chicks for free.

(MODS: This is not a Dem Primaries post! It is about Andrea Greenspan Mitchell and the disconnect between the punditry and real America).

was chairman of the Fed when this common-culture comment on an aspect of wealth distribution topped the charts. Doesn't mean anything, just amused at the near intersection of two nonintersecting lines.

Of course, Andrea's not Alan, and for all we know maybe the two worlds did come together, perhaps in his limo as he listened and mused in satisfaction about all the fabulously wealthy musicians laissez-faire economics creates.
