I think Trump just won the nomination.

Before I begin, let me say I applaud the anti-Trump protestors' heart and intent. But I think the end result is going to be the nomination of Donald Trump for President on the Republican ticket. This would end a candidate in a sane world, but this is Trumpworld where there is no such thing as bad publicity. And just as a train wreck attacks onlookers, this will definately peel off some of more extreme Cruz supporters and put Trump over the top in key primaries.

about Trump--until just a few says ago. Hubby always thought Trump was a joke who would never get elected. My husband was enjoying the spectacle.

Today he commented that Trump is no longer acting like an idiotic buffoon. He's all ready pivoted to primary/presidential mode. Hubby said, "I think everything we've seen this far has been an act. He knew that he had to galvanize the base/crazies and get them on board. Now he's going after the Indies and the Dems."

Hubby pointed out how Trump is discussing how horrific these trade deals are for America and how terrible the dirty corporate money in politics is creating bought-off politicians. Trump is also now discussing and touting his anti-war stances--and his belief that Iraq was a mistake.

I looked at my husband and said...holy shit.

I think my husband is right.

Sad to admit it, but I'm frightened. I think he played the buffoon, as strategy. I think he's a lot smarter/diabolical than people realize.

You said "stupid people don't become billionaires." Trump inherited money. It's not like he started with nothing.

And Trump may be a good negotiator and a decent business man and he may be smart in a business sense--but he is not WISE. Wise, decent people do not say the things that he has said. Let's be perfectly clear about that.

Wise men do not want to build walls around our country. Wise men do not position Hispanics as "rapists" and "murderers." Wise men do not drag their feet on responding to the Ku Klux Klan supporting your candidacy.

And I don't think he's "several steps ahead."

I think he's a demagogue who will say anything to anyone to get elected.

The scary thing is that I think he's done with his, "I'm a buffoon and a racist assclown" portion of the entertainment and he's now about to try to bamboozle the other demographics.

I find it frightening!

And do you really think Mr Trump's nomination was in doubt? There is no evident change in his status, except possibly to make his followers more fervent: the GOP establishment still despises him and will be exploring ways and means to stop him, up to and possibly including precipitating a crisis at the convention.

However, I'll agree with the point that this will not hurt him, and should strengthen him. But I would not be at all surprised if the GOP does not precipitate a crisis at the convention, whereby the winner of the primaries and the delegates is not awarded the nomination. Much depends upon the identity of the Democratic nominee, because Mrs Clinton will obviously be more suitable to the GOP establishment than any other candidate, but if Mr Sanders takes the nomination, then that same establishment is not going to allow two anti-establishment candidates in the general election. What they can do about it is the question. Please do note that saying Mrs Clinton is more acceptable to the GOP establishment than any other candidate running now is not intended as a knock on Mrs Clinton.

If they do go to a brokered convention, they're not going to use it to anoint Cruz. He's loathed. And if they do go the convention route, I believe the current "A brokered convention would go against the will of the voters" would fatally bite them on the ass.

The Web has been praising Marco Rubio's "performance" last night, but...not including the cringe-inducing "climate change" gaffe...it was too little too late, and it followed his penis jokes and grade-school giggling while delivering them.

Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Kasich. I think we're looking at Trump, too. And whether it ends up being Hillary or Bernie, I'm sure both of them would come loaded for bear. There will be s small, wet, orange circle left on the ground that used to be Trump.

The republicans have descended into a massive civil war. They were all told over the last 8 years that negotiation and compromise were the worst things ever, and now each of their factions believes that they are the only one that matters. Trump just happened to appeal to the largest faction in that party, which is brain dead racists that wish it was 1920 again. The Republican party needs to burn and be reborn into something that isn't based on Richard Nixon/Ronald Reagan philosophy of 45 years ago. Trump and his violent supports are the last gasp of that philosophy refusing to go quietly and this is what we get.
