North Carolina investigators are considering filing a charge of inciting a riot against Donald Trump

Whoa! Are North Carolina officials considering charges against Donald Trump? Yes, according to WRAL:

Last week, Trump visited Concord and Fayetteville in rallies that attracted thousands of attendees. During the rally in Fayetteville, a protester was assaulted as he was escorted from Crown Coliseum by police. A Linden man was later charged in the incident, and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office investigators said Monday that they are considering filing a charge of inciting a riot against Trump.

The Fayetteville incident preceded an even uglier scene at a Trump rally in Chicago. He canceled an event planned for Saturday evening after supporters and protesters who packed a hall at the University of Illinois at Chicago clashed.

I know, one sentence in the fifth paragraph. I'll take it. Someone will get the them, no doubt, and the filing will never happen, but one can dream a little.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Monday saying they were investigating the possibility of charging Trump or his campaign with “inciting a riot.”

Our investigation is not complete as [to] the incidents of Wednesday, March 10, 2016. We are continuing to look at the totality of these circumstances, including any additional charges against Mr. McGraw, including the potential of whether there was conduct on the part of Mr. Trump or the Trump campaign which rose to the level of inciting a riot, and including the actions or inactions of our deputies.

I really think that rather than simply wondering whether it will happen we should do our darnedest to make it happen.

I am certain that it is the media coverage and attention on this issue - driven in part by the interplay with bloggers, and social media which led the North Carolina prosecutor to feel that he had the support he needed to make this statement.

I would think that the Dept. of Justice would probably applaud the move - as would anyone sane involved in public administration.

I wrote the following in a thread earlier in GD Primaries (which really belonged here)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12511487513

Today is a critical moment in US constitutional history.

If Trump wins tomorrow & becomes Republican nominee an army of quislings will assemble around his racist, mysogynistic violent platform.

Many will counsel that it is better to let him campaign and lose rather than use the full force of the law to try stop him.

But if a week is a long time in politics, then seven and a half months of hate rhetoric - backed by an army of quislings - is an an aeon.

If Trump is indicted it will at least slow him down. The people will have a clear steer that this is not an acceptable form of politics.

If Trump is indicted Police & Security Services will have a clear mandate to keep an eye on the evolution of his "political movement".

If Trump is indicted civil authority, civil society & civic leaders will have a shield of defence to use when they speak against this evil.

But if a blind eye is turned to Trump's violent rhetoric citing "politics" & "democracy" then his legions will claim immunity and run amok.

And this is why the US DOJ must #IndictTrump.

P.S. It has been a long time since i have posted here.. But this Trump situation is seriously getting out of hand. As some of you know I am an NZer and a news publisher. I am currently based in France and like everyone in the world watching what is happening in the US very closely. IMO a combination of #Brexit and Trump being a candidate in this election might dent global confidence sufficiently to trigger a second round of the global economic crisis.

And before that tweeted it and Facebooked it. From the look of my Facebook newsfeed half the politically aware people on the planet are following this story very very intensely.
