Election, or ransom note?
Was driving along waiting for the weather report on the news radio and this startling Dave Ross commentary came one. It is always strange to hear any deep, explosive truth on a CBS radio new commentary. To hear a pleasant mild-mannered voice say in so many words that the Republicans plan to utterly destroy the American economy if Obama wins is... well, it's something.
The thesis discussed is that businesses support Romney because they do not believe that the Republicans will intentionally destroy the economy while a Republican is president.
The sad, scary thing is that's probably correct. Congressional concern about the deficit would be a fatal blow to our tenuous economy. Under Romney congress would probably double the deficit, just like under Bush. Under an Obama second term they would shut-down the government, refuse to increase the debt-ceiling... any crazy thing that came to mind that would make America fall apart.
So business assumes that the climate for business would be better under Romney, not because businesses necessarily thinks Republican policies are good for the economy but because Republicans would make damn sure the economy fails under Obama. I wish it was harder to fault that reasoning.
As the commentator concludes, that's not an election, it's a ransom note.
I wish there was a print transcript, but it's just audio/video.
