Donald Trump warned of riots around the Republican National Convention should he fall slightly short of the 1,237 delegates he needs to clinch the nomination and the party moves to select another candidate, the New York Times reports.
Said Trump: I think well win before getting to the convention, but I can tell you, if we didnt and if were 20 votes short or if were 100 short and were at 1,100 and somebody else is at 500 or 400, because were way ahead of everybody, I dont think you can say that we dont get it automatically. I think it would be I think youd have riots. I think youd have riots. Im representing a tremendous, many, many millions of people.

(12,655 posts)like it or not, if he wins and they take it from him, the party deserves to go down in abject humiliation.

(43,184 posts)There's a threshold number of delegates one must clinch in order to secure the nomination on the first vote.
If one doesn't reach that threshold by the time of the convention and the first vote doesn't reflect it, then any vote after that is completely up in the air.
So if Trump gets a plurality of the delegates pre-convention but doesn't reach the threshold, he hasn't won anything yet.
