Pizza Ranch linked to multistate E. coli outbreak

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/03/16/pizza-ranch-linked-to-multistate-e-coli-outbreak.html

An investigation into a multistate E. coli outbreak has been linked to food served at several Pizza Ranch restaurants, health officials concluded.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that nine of the 13 cases of the illness affected people who reported eating at a Pizza Ranch restaurant prior to contracting the virus....

The restaurant has temporarily discontinued its use of its Skillet Dough and Original Dough mix due to reports that the products were a possible factor in the contraction of the illness.

"In addition, we instructed all Pizza Ranch locations to complete a special, precautionary cleaning of all surfaces and equipment used in dough preparation or service," Achterhoff said.

You've got to wonder if there's a strip mall somewhere with a Pizza Ranch, a Chipotle, and (from a few years ago) a Jack in the Box.

If so that's a fuck up on the management's end, not the individual franchise.

It's really interesting to see what food suppliers supply food to what chains. I would be willing to bet good money that you can probably point to the supplier for both Chipotle and Pizza Ranch in that region and you'll find the culprit who's supplying the rotten goods.

Chipotle and Pizza Ranch could both be using a supplier that's based in say Ohio that would distribute to both regions which would be really easy to do. Out here McDonalds gets most of its' food from the same place (a company called Golden State Foods) that supplies to a couple of chains around here, and if that were to go down, then they would all be affected. It's like when one bulb in a strand of Christmas lights goes out and you have to find the one link in the chain that affects the whole strand before it will power back on. That's my theory anyway. That's exactly what Jack In The Box did - they found the faulty link in the supply chain and switched it with a much better one and overall improved their product.

But they do have decent food, a kids-eat-free-on-Tues policy, and they assist in fundraising for my daughter's school, so we end up there once a month or so.

I've been to one once, and it was a nightmare. Dirty, messy and...basically an E.coli host facility. I objected loudly the whole time.
