I have a serious case of spring fever!

It's been absolutely gorgeous here in the south the past week. We put a shade garden in last spring, so this is the first year I'm getting to see everything come to life.

The rubies and azaleas are blooming, the hydrangea are leafing, the Lenten roses are in bloom and the hostas are just starting to peek through the mulch. I lost a camellia over the winter, so I just replaced it with a gorgeous knockout rose bush that will be in bloom soon.

How can anyone be in a bad mood this time of year?

Last week my husband and I went plant shopping - bought some azaleas to fill some holes in our flower beds, and dozens of zinnias, salvias and dusty miller. Our older azaleas are in full bloom, the bridal wreath spirea are blooming (I watched those go from no leaves at all to buds to leaves opening in one day), and the new plants are blooming and attracting butterflies already.

Next week I hope that the stores will have pentas - they didn't last week - and we will pick up some more annuals to plant and fill in holes.

The birds are mobbing the feeders, stocking up for their trip back north or getting ready for the breeding season.

It's lovely out!

I learned my lesson the hard way last year. Was about to fill my freezer with venison before I discovered Liquid Fence. Lol.

And although I didn't look up the zinnias and dusty miller ahead of time, they won't it them from all reports.

I love pansies for winter color but the deer think they are wonderful appetizers so I can't have them. I have a lot of narcissus and irises - deer won't eat them!

I need to get out and take some pics. This weekend the azaleas should be in full bloom.

and I looked it up. It's a real thing. It's the opposite of what people get in the winter.

It's been in the 50's most of the time, with a few good days this week and last, but it is supposed to SNOW on Sunday.

I hate winter so, so much.
