Trans Man Destroys North Carolina’s Anti-LGBT Law in One Brilliant Tweet

http://usuncut.com/resistance/north-carolina-anti-lgbt-bathroom-law/

North Carolina signed into law last Wednesday one of the most flagrant civil rights violations in recent history, a bill specifically designed to forbid cities from passing protections for the LGBT community.

The right-wing hysteria erupted after Charlotte passed an ordinance to protect trans citizens from being bullied and assaulted for using bathrooms that fit their gender. Governor Pat McCrory said the ordinance “defied common sense” in a tweet that belied his obvious disgust with the transgender community.

The bill is already proving to be the most massively unpopular thing McCrory has ever passed. The Republican Governor has started backpedaling, trying to brand the bill as “bipartisan” even though not a single state Democrat voted for it. In fact, they refused to even participate in the vote and walked out of the Senate chamber in a display of public protest against the law....

Perhaps the best response from twitter came from a trans man residing in North Carolina. JP Sheffield fired back, brilliantly exposing who was REALLY defying common sense in one amazing tweet.

requires that people use the restroom of the biological sex they were born as. This guy was born female and transitioned to being male. However, because of this law, he is required to use the women's restroom- because he was born female.

The straight white penis patrol has struck NC with a non-issue.

As a 65 year old woman I've used bathrooms across this country and all over the world, including unisex bathrooms.
I was never accosted in a bathroom. I've met some very entertaining--and beautifully dressed/made up trans
women--in some of those bathrooms.

The problem is that the real perverts are the Republicans who are obsessed with who is in what bathroom and what
genitals they might be hiding.

Why do they seem to think we women need those penis people to protect us while using the bathroom? Do they realize
how patriarchal, how condescending, how controlling they sound?

For cryin' out loud. Do they think heterosexual males have never raped women? Or assaulted women? Or brutalized women?
And they didn't need to put on a dress and stalk women in the rest room to do it. I don't know about anyone else, but I have no fear of sharing a bathroom with a trans woman,
which is where she should be. And the trans men can use the stalls in the mens room.

What is their problem? I really do think THEIR obsession is the perversion.

My husband--a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst--speculates that what the Republicans are really afraid of is the diminishing of rights of the straight white penis. These guys
have been running things in this country--particularly the south--for a very long time. And they are terrified of losing control. So, they want to make sure that
they make it clear that the straight white penis is still in control--even down to where anyone gets to relieve themselves. They're sick and they are perverted.

And they have used the excuse of the bathroom issue to cover their bigotry and hate of all LGBT as well as misogyny. These are the same folks who don't trust
women to make their own reproductive health choices--and now we women aren't even capable of handling ourselves in the bathroom if a trans woman walks in.

But what they're really after is control and dominance. They are not nice people. They don't believe in equality, justice, fairness, compassion or love.
They are full of hatred.

We must GOTV in November and throw them out of office.

The struggles of the poor, misunderstood, persecuted WASP! Why, they've only had centuries of control, and now all those other people want to change it. I haz a sad.

I had to explain to my mother that gay people (I don't think she still understands anything about transgender people, though I've tried) don't molest children on average. That was her take on this, that the law would keep gay people from being able to attack children.

Personally, I'd be happier if the person with the first and second tweets were in the men's room. They are men. I'd be happier if those women in the other replies were in the women's room. They are women.

My beautiful home state is becoming a bigger nightmare every day.

However, how do they plan to enforce it? Are they going to station restroom monitors to have everyone drop their pants to prove their sex? Are you going to have to present a birth certificate before you enter the restroom? Unless as a trans person who is still in the transition stage (I am assuming most will have the operation for the sex change) how can anyone know what your original sex at birth was?

I think it's a misperception that 'most' transgender folks go through surgery ... not even sure there is such a thing for female > male but maybe I'm mistaken. The male>female surgery though is quite expensive and not 'covered' and given the employment struggles of your average transgender person ... plus it requires a lengthy recovery period. I've no idea the 'stats' (and I sorta hope nobody does) but I'd be surprised if, say, more than 20% overall go through the surgery to alter their genitals.

Some guy was talking about what a good thing this law was to protect women. I posted this picture and a link to the tweet, and asked the guy how he'd feel about this trans-man being in the bathroom with his girlfriend/wife. He said this wasn't a trans-man because he has a beard.

When I called him on his ignorance, and told him to educate himself, he said he refused to educate himself in sin.

So, of course, I told him I understood, since obviously his religion likes him to be ignorant.

Of course, I'm secular and know nothing, he says.
