Boy, 4, shot in head with gun left in car while mother was shopping

We talked about the 4 y/o who shot his mother when he found her gun in the car, and so many of us expressed concern the tot could have shot himself.

and it happened, here in Ala.

4-year-old boy was shot in the head Thursday night with a gun left in a car while his mother was inside a store.

police spokesman Sgt. Bryan Shelton said the mother left her children in the car. One of the children, believed to be the boy's older sister, found the gun, picked it up and it discharged.

Shelton said the bullet grazed the boy's skull but did not enter the skull. He is listed in stable condition at Children's of Alabama.

Shelton said no charges are expected in the case.

I thought leaving kids alone in a car was illegal????????
And, it was over 75 degrees today.

until we start charging people for negligent homicide when they leave a gun unsecured for kids to use, we will keep having these tragedies.

Just an "accident". The fact her rights have to even be QUESTIONED is enough punishment for this gun lovin' momma.

and those kids should probably not be in her care, though I wouldn't necessarily want them going to a state facility. Perhaps the charge and threat of losing her children would turn her around.

She should lose her rights to keep both firearms and children.

If there are no charges, then she is officially considered a responsible, law abiding gun owner. I guess as long as no guns were harmed...

Leaving young children alone in a car? Especially on a day when the interior can get very warm?

Alabama must have a "brains must be on the upholstery" law or something.

She should have made sure all her kids were packing so he could have shot his sister before she shot him.
