I'm just sort of curious because my personal opinion is that because of Trump's lack of connections to republican politicians and due to a fairly moderate supreme court, I just don't see Trump being able to accomplish much of anything even through executive orders. In particular, the idea that he could set up the infrastructure needed to build a wall in 4 years seems pretty ridiculous. Also, I'm liking our odds in 2020 due to the continual shifting of demographics in the dems' favor - so I guess I'm just curious, what do you think is a worst case scenario if Trump were elected?

(86 posts)But Reagan had 8 years (which electorally seems impossible with Trump) and 6 years with the Senate majority (granted 8 with the House against him) and a much more conservative S.C. - I'm not saying Trump would be a good president (I think he's an awful person) just that I do think he would be pretty ineffective

(13,873 posts)in hoping people wouldn't be stupid, and I sure don't want to bank on that when it comes to Trump.
On edit: I don't disagree with your original point that the courts and Congress would take away as much of his authority as possible, but we saw once before what the American people do when faced with a terrorist attack, even if the President is an idiot. I will admit that Trump scares me, if for nothing else than what his support says about our country.
And I will certainly be voting against a Trump presidency if that's what it comes down to - I'm mostly just curious if anyone thinks he would be able to really fulfill his campaign agenda (which actually does seem pretty isolationist in terms of foreign policy)
PS - I like your quote

(58,785 posts)I feel both Kasich and Cruz are significantly more dangerous, Cruz because he mixes his bizarre...whatever with an unstable but brilliant ruthless competence and Kaisich because he is a competent extremist who has been working for four decades to transfer our power to a ruling class, not the "moderate" he's passing himself off as.

(8,086 posts)and the thought of any of them with their hands on the nuclear football absolutely frightens me.
Lots of people thought GW Bush was a harmless non-entity when he took office. Look at the damage he did.
Same with Reagan, people absolutely underestimated the way he'd swing the country to the right.
There isn't a single GOP candidate I'd trust with this nation's future. Not a one of them.

(58,785 posts)Moderate cons have mostly been driven out, and others have stayed out. And so it comes to this. People who are literally by nature not competent to govern running the GOP. And THEY are now afraid of candidates too horrible even for them...

I think your speculation on a hypothetical Trump presidency is insightful and probably pretty accurate bit who wants to take the chance?

(7,107 posts)It's impossible for Trump to win the General Election and if he wins the GOP nomination, the Democrats will control the presidency & the senate.
Trump is an early Christmas present to the Democrats.
No fear at all, in fact I welcome him.
Cruz, however, is fucking dangerous. He would push the button to bring about the second coming.
