The evangelical types don't want to admit that they secretly admire him more, but they value male power and objectification of females more than their phony faith and so this improves his standing in their eyes, especially if it sets up the "I'm a sinner who can only be redeemed by God" dynamic so beloved of evangelical America.

They do this shit all the time. The point is to keep turning (publicly) to Jesus for next week's need for redemption while demonstrating one's authority, power and privilege over women on a regular basis.

Heidi Cruz is kinda uppity with her Goldman career, and with depression--how is she supposed to be an obedient Christian wife like that? Of course she unmanned him. She has to ask God's forgiveness to for _causing_ him (they REALLY think like this) to stray.
