Rachel Maddow's program experienced gigantic ratings growth the first quarter of 2016 as MSNBC's primetime audience grew more than twice as fast as Fox News.
According to a press release from MSNBC:
MSNBCs primetime programming (M-F 8-11p) delivered strong growth for the quarter. In the A25-54 demo, MSNBC was up 112%, while Fox News grew 48% over the first quarter of 2015. The Rachel Maddow Show edged out CNNs regular programming in A25-54 (279,000 vs. 277,000) and topped CNN in total viewers (1,166,000 vs. 877,000).The Rachel Maddow Show was up 92% in A25-54 and 48% in total viewers over the first quarter of 2015.
What MSNBC did was impressive. For the first time Fox News was the most watched basic cable network in both daytime and primetime, so for MSNBC to be growing faster than the most watched network on basic cable is quite an accomplishment.
Rachel Maddows show remains the centerpiece of the MSNBC primetime lineup. It is also one of the few shows remaining on cable news that discusses current events from a leftward perspective. CNN has been boosted by its 2016 election coverage, so Maddows defeat of Anderson Cooper 360 by almost 300,000 viewers speaks volumes about the quality of her program.
MSNBC is the smallest and least available of the three cable news networks, but after a disastrous 2015, Rachel Maddow is leading the network to stellar presidential election cycle ratings early on in 2016.

I really seriously doubt that's the case but I hope Rachel Maddow can sleep at night.

(13,871 posts)Guess the so-called boycott of Rachel by DU Sanders supporters hasn't hit their bottom line yet.
It is still, by far, one of the most liberal shows, on the most liberal network, on TV.

(1,048 posts)She is fair and balanced and you see reports on her show that you just don't see anywhere else. I'm kind of still pissed at MSNBC though for the whole flap with Melissa Harris Perry. I had Saturday and Sunday brunches at my house planned around Nerdland and I am very upset at the way MSNBC just threw her away. They got rid of Joy Reid's show, Alex Wagner, Ed Schultz, Al Sharpton, and those on the Cycle. They took a bit hit with their diversity that they really had a big claim about. I get wanting to be more "hard newsy" but did you really have to replace Joy Reid's show with another white male anchor. Then Chuck Todd's simple ass with MTP Daily....don't even get me started.
But happy for Rachel. Genuinely love that woman.

Thev've been all-Drumpf-all-the-time for months. The only way they can get any lower is if they re-animate Pat Buchanan's bloated corpse and put it on the air again.
Edit: it seems Buchanan isn't actually dead. But a boy can dream.

(46,436 posts)but I have a hard time watching her these days with all the repetitiveness, saying the same thing four or five different ways, as if we didn't get it the first time. I much prefer Chris Hayes.
