WASHINGTON Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump now says his contentious comments on abortion were taken out of context.
Trump was answering questions during an MSNBC town hall taping Wednesday when he said there should be "some form of punishment" for women who get abortions if the procedure is outlawed. He later reversed his position in a statement.
In an interview with Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor" set to air Thursday night, Trump blames the flub on a "convoluted" interview.
"This was a long, convoluted question," he says. "This was a long discussion and they just cut it out."

(23,975 posts)Chris Matthews asks question. DJT decides not to answer, throws it back to CM to ask about his religion. they go back and forth with CM slowly squeezing answers out of DJT until they strike gold together. it was inevitable, someone on MSNBC, i think O'Donnell, got it right: in the lack of prepared talking points, DJT arrived at his answer by way of logic and gave voice to the actual consequences of having a "pro life" government.
which is actually kind of a bummer -- i was hoping he'd be on track for the Republican nomination, to really fuck up their convention; but now, thanks to using his brain for purposes of public conversation, he could wash out early.

(23,975 posts)we need DJT to run strong for the final stretch so he can fuck things up in the general, either as the nominee or as a disgruntled 3rd-party wildcat candidacy. he's pretty much crushing himself now; i'm hoping he gets his fascist train rolling again before NY votes.

The town hall interview with Donald Trump was taped in advance and then aired in its entirety. Absolutely no part of the exchange between Trump and Chris Matthews was edited out.

(15,224 posts)If someone cannot handle Chris Matthews, how in the hell are they supposed to be expected to handle being President? I've heard all of the Trump paid spokespersons saying that Trump was set up, the question was not discussed beforehand, the question was an attack, the question was unfair - and so on and so on.
I call complete and utter B/S. Trump screwed up and couldn't handle it.
And oh by the way, just where IS Chris Christie these days? I haven't seen him parading around at Trump rallies. Perhaps I've just been avoiding the coverage.

Days after sparking a firestorm of criticism for his comments on abortion, Donald Trump says laws regarding abortions should remain as they are.
"At this moment the laws are set. And I think we have to leave it that way," Trump told CBS' "Face the Nation" host John Dickerson in an interview that will air Sunday.
