Eightpack

There were eight of us. Since we were lunching at a buffet our fare ranged from vegan to steak. Other than the yummy strawberries we shared for dessert the one thing we had in common was our membership in the Democratic Party, and we were chatting about our upcoming state convention. Four of us were Bernie supporters, four of us were supporting Hillary. It was a delightful two hours, filled with productive and informative conversation. The time together was utterly devoid of innuendo, accusation, name-calling, or threats to throw each other under a bus. Two of those lunchmates are likely to be elected delegates to the national convention, one for Hillary, one for Bernie. And we’re all already planning to campaign together for the eventual nominee because we’re Democrats and that’s just how we roll.

by our system.

Good on ya (and all in attendance)! I find that, living in a red state turning purple and quite rural, I have to disengage the emotive factor before a reasonable conversation can begin... even with highly educated individuals.
Once that is achieved, I find it's possible to have a conversation much like you describe... it's so refreshing intellectually and regarding the responsibilities of citizenship.
