Rally set over Davis monument (TX)

In an effort to relocate a historical marker honoring Confederate President Jefferson Davis from Washington Park to the Brownsville Historical Museum, local activists will hold a rally 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Washington Park.
Antonio Castillo, a Brownsville resident who led a petition to remove the monument in December, said that since the news of the petition spread, students from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley have expressed interest in working to remove the monument.
Its 2016, and there is no point in honoring what the confederacy stood for, and by keeping the monument at Washington Park it is like the city is condoning the actions of the confederacy and slavery, Castillo said ...
What we want is to convince all the city commissioners and the mayor to vote on moving the monument to a museum where it can serve as a learning tool in an appropriate setting, Castillo said ...
