Cost of mailing a letter drops to 47¢ Sunday

WASHINGTON (AP) — The cost of mailing a letter is going down.

Beginning Sunday, the price of a first-class stamp drops two cents, to 47 cents. The reduction is the result of an expiring surcharge that had been put in place in January 2014 ...
Commercial and other postage rates also are declining.

Bought a roll of "forever" stamps years ago and it's hardly had any used.

When was the last time the price of stamps dropped? I thought this would never happen. Now I am out almost a dollar!

Never mind that the USPS is one of the great bargains in public services...you put your mail in your mailbox, they show up, take it, route it correctly and deliver it to the person of your choosing...for less than half a dollar. That's incredible.

I'd pay $2-3 for that service if I had to.

But, now I have lots of stamps, and don't have to burn fifty cents of gas to buy more.

It's a trade-off, I'll get another cuppa coffee and ponder it.

I just bought a book of them on Tuesday. Oh well. I don't think I am out more than 60 cents, however.

Mailed just one first class letter a week, any and all financial difficulties the Post office has would be gone in short order

Sucks for the post office, but I mail 1-2 items a year. Thanks to online bill pay, I don't get much mail, and don't need to send much mail.

Or an occasional note?

The art of the written letter is dying, it's sad to say.

I do send the business reply envelopes back when I get them.

The least I can do to cut down on junk mail is make them pay to receive an empty envelope.
