Very sad

At least I had that $ sitting in investments for a year making $. I came out ahead.

Not fun. Plus we have to make quarterly estimated payments for 2016 and had to send a big first one due April 15th.

We had a much larger portion of our social security taxed this year--both Fed and State.

I always file my federal return the very day that I have all of my paperwork together and, for the state, as soon as the state e-file site is ready.

until March, so I had to wait to file.

I thought all that stuff was due to the taxpayer by the end of January.

I really, really hate this time of year. I've always had great difficulty doing what I need to do, but don't feel like doing, and it's only getting worse as I get older.

In some countries they just mail you your tax return with everything filled in and you just sign it if you agree. So civilised. Why can't we do that here? I'm sure the IRS already knows all about my medical expenses and investment income anyway.

Anyway, currently owing a few thousand dollars and I'm confident I can polish that away when I start including my deductions (medical expenses mostly).

I just need to bloody well DO it! I hate myself for my procrastination.

What crappy timing - isn't there a convenient time to get sick? Oh well, at least it was one of those things that happened suddenly and unexpectedly - the silver lining in getting "surprise surgery" is that you don't have time to stress out and dwell on it while waiting.

From filing to refund was about a week and a half.

Then an unexpected form came in, so filed a 1040x. The good news, I didn't have to pay back ALL of the refund!

Also, due to a technical glitch, resulting in probable under-refunding, I may be getting back thousands from a number of previous returns. All I have to do is submit an addendum.

Not a bad tax season this year, all things considered.
