Actress Doris Roberts known for her role in 'Everybody Loves Raymond' has passed away at the age of 90, according to reports and her costars.

Roberts starred in the sitcom as Marie Barone from 1996 - 2005.

Her son, Michael Cannata, told the Hollywood news website Deadline that Roberts died in her sleep of natural causes Sunday night.

On Twitter, Roberts' costar Patricia Heaton wrote, "Truly the end of an era. My wonderful TV mother-in-law and ELR nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate professional from whom I learned so much. She was funny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest. Nothing gave her greater joy than her three wonderful grandchildren, of whom she was so proud. It truly was a privilege Doris. I love you and miss you.

I first fell in love with her on "Remington Steele." RIP

The same character, Mrs. Merkle, also works as a temp in a department store in another movie - same character, different movie. Similar plot, no one remembers hiring her, she just shows up and works there. And they mix up her name, Merkle, and call her Mrs. Miracle.

I loved her, she was great in Everybody loves Raymond...perfect portrayal of a boundary-challenged MIL. And of course she was also good in Christmas Vacation. Remington Steele was a bit before my time, but I've heard she was great in that as well.

She was disturbed by Carrie's lack of interest in house work and insisted on showing her how to properly polish furniture.

She applied the polish to a cloth and began to make "tiny circles" over the wood, over and over, with Carrie ignoring her all the while. Eventually she polished the whole table via her "instructions" and Carrie smiled like a cheshire cat.

I don't consider myself a "fan" of a whole lot of entertainers, but I was definitely a fan of hers. She was terrific in everything she did, actually had quite a range. I watched "Everybody Loves Raymond" because of her, iconic character, though I liked the brother and, of course, Peter Doyle, a lot, too. But she was the best. My mother, which doesn't happen often, was just as much of a fan, though she loved her for "Remington Steele," which shows what a broad appeal she had. I even watched those "Mrs. Miracle" TV movies because she was in them. I'll miss her... Thanks so much for posting.

"Remington Steele"

BIG R.I.P. and you will be missed. Didn't realie that she was 90 but she would have been! She was like the "other" Betty White.
