The Cy-Fair Independent School District has canceled school for the rest of the week due to the continued flooding that has swamped large swaths of Houston.
"Due to continued hazardous road conditions, damage to schools and facilities and the number of families that have been devastated by the flood, all schools and facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday, April 21 and 22," the district announced. "This includes all before and after school activities."
The Cypress area has been particularly hard hit, and creeks in the area have continued to rise, even after rain subsided.
The school district is the state's third-largest with 114,000 students and about 90 campuses. About half the children are from low-income families.

Man, I don't think Denver has ever done that due to a blizzard.

Also, Cy-Fair is one of several districts that have canceled classes for the week.
Respectfully, was this intended to be funny? Because this situation is decidedly unfunny, with 8 people drowning in their cars at latest count. I could be reading it wrong... It's been a long week.

(5,520 posts)The school district covers a really big chunk of real estate-186 square miles. Most of the roads are passable, but there are still a bunch that aren't.
The crazy thing about this storm is that an area that received 13 inches of rain could be just a mile from an area that
received only 3 inches.

(4,198 posts)and you're right, it's so weird how it won't even be raining at our house south of 10, but Katy proper north of 10 will get a ton of rain. I guess the Houston area is in a weird meteorological place...
