Conservative Backlash Over Tubman $20 Bill. Anti's Will Refuse To Use It.

In the end a lot of money protesters will refuse to use the $5, $10 & $20 bill because women will appear on them they do not approve of. That leaves the $!, $50 & $100 bill to use for transactions.

Conservatives are pissed and want the GOP to scrap this deal if they win the WH. The new GOP meme will be abolish Tubman from the $20 bill like their meme abolish Obamacare.

13. Why We Should Keep Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks Off the $20 Bill
Wed Apr 20, 2016, 10:39 PM

I don’t want Harriet Tubman’s face on a $20 bill; I want our people to be free from the chains of institutionalized racism and economic slavery. That’s how we honor her.

There are similar sentiments being expressed by many other like-minded individuals.

" similar sentiments being expressed by many other like-minded individuals..."

"Many" being a statistical standard or a statistical aberration?

(A 2009 study found that most weasel words in it could be divided into three categories: Numerically vague expressions (e.g. "some people", "experts", "many&quot ...)

and may not be feeling very "liberal" herself with her viewpoint that putting Harriet Tubman's face on the $20 will "undermine her legacy."

Actually this author's arguments express real feeling but don't really seem to make her case regarding Mrs. Tubman's legacy as an American, and seem to wander away a bit as in explaining her notion that doing this would be okay off in some misty future after black Americans are all well stocked with $20s, but that it will only somehow further economic inequality if done before.

This writer doesn't express a desire to keep "ownership" of Harriet Tubman in the black community, but I suspect that may be the legacy she is most worried about. If so, that would be very understandable, things aren't okay, but Mrs. Tubman is a very special part of America's heritage and on our $20 she will symbolize all that America was and is, including all its people. It could be a lot worse, and actually always was.

Which brings us to Andrew Jackson being moved to the back of the bill. (!) What a peculiar juxtaposition of two dramatically different facets of our history. We've honored him far too long, and it would be best if he took his place wherever presidents we don't revere are paid mostly out-of-sight courtesy to. But while he remains he'll be a reminder that genocide and slavers are part of our heritage too.

I read the article... if I had two slices of bread and some lettuce I could make a bologna sandwich with it.

Harriet Tubman did not fight for capitalism, free trade, or competitive markets. She repeatedly put herself in the line of fire to free people who were treated as currency themselves

Honestly, if she fought for the North, of course Harriet Tubman was fighting for capitalism and free trade and competitive markets.

In fact Harriet Tubman was a business owner herself. I almost want to believe a woman with the first name Feminista is writing this whole thing as a satire. The article has a sort of The Onion quality to it

To African Americans, Harriet Tubman was our Moses, guiding the enslaved to freedom by faith and the light of the North Star. Why cheapen her by putting her on the face on the 20 dollar bill – the very symbol of the racialized capitalism she was fleeing?

Not saying I agree, just saying that this sentiment is out there among some on the left.

Okay, I can see their point.

But that said, it isn't "the left" that is honoring her. It's the whole country that is honoring her and her gift to our history. Being anti-slavery has not been a left-wing position for at least 170 years.

Since nobody living owns the right to her image, it's perfectly okay for the country that loves her to honor her on its currency. There is nothing explicitly anti-capitalist in the life of Harriet Tubman. That's silly.

Their cowardice is evident almost everywhere you look...

They're scared of undesirables, so they militarize the police.
They're scared of terrorist hiding behind every tree.
They're scared of immigrants.
They're scared of the growing ethic diversity in this country.
They're scared of the LGBT community.
They're scared of refugees.
They're scared of taxes.
They're scared of every little thing so they need to buy copious amounts of firearms...

So, I would have to say that their cowardice is actually quite believable.

Ahh.... RRS Boaty McBoatface. The Internet's suggested name for a governmental organization's new polar research ship.

Harriet Tubman is fine on any $ bill IMO.

Alternatively I hear the Bank of England has retited Charles Darwin from the £10 note.... any American connection we could use to slap him on a US dollar denominated banknote?

By the time they actually get around to printing the new bills I expect them to be of use for collectors and museums but that's it. Why would conservatives want to boycott a gun-totting, evangelical Christian Republican? Tubman was all three.
