(57,097 posts)1. I support Bernie all the way to Philly.
2. I support Hillary if Bernie doesn't make it past Philly.
3. The platform is important and I believe Bernie has drawn a lot of issues out that most voters will support even if Hillary and the DNC don't at this moment.
4. The Congressional elections are too important to ignore even if I didn't support any of the Presidential candidates.

(11,746 posts)I have nothing against Bernie Sanders and have unequivocally said I would support home 100% were he the nominee. We have 2 great candidates.
But I must say that strident Sanders supporters have been atrocious. It is good to see posts like yours from more sober Democrats.

(5,762 posts)Still voting "D" in November, no matter what.

(58,724 posts)Why do you want to stab people in the eye with a fork just for asking about the election?
lapislzi
(5,762 posts)Because no one's ever said, "just shoot me" or "I wish I could punch Ted Cruz in the face" in a joking manner. Because joking remarks about feeling irritable are always to be taken as literal truth or intention.
Yes, I go around with a sharpened fork in my purse in case someone asks me an annoying question. Amazing I haven't been arrested yet.
Next question?
I just was taken aback at the violent nature of that particular sentiment. I also don't get why someone asking about the election would elicit such an angry reaction.
Why does it annoy you when someone asks about the election? It seems like that would be a positive thing.

(5,762 posts)Or, to be clear, I don't want to talk about my own views. I'm always happy to assist anyone who wants information about registering to vote or anything like that. I've helped in voter registration drives, driving people to the polls, and other party business.
I'm also happy to direct people to factual material so people can make up their own minds.
But, I really don't want to be drawn into a discussion that winds up with me having to reveal who I'm voting for or why. And I definitely don't want to be drawn into a discussion that I know beforehand is going to devolve into a racist rant or some conspiracy theory from the other person (because I've been down this road before with him or her). I'm also tired of people assuming they know how I plan to vote based on what I've said in the past.
I learned a long time ago that secret ballots are secret for a reason.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)That makes sense.

(5,762 posts)I can be reasonably sure that most people here (in GD, anyway) are not going to try to engage me in an exercise that's so anathema to my own views that it's going to leave me exhausted and frustrated. I've stayed out of the the GD rimaries forum for that very reason.
I've found a lot of peace of mind deleting people from Face Book and using the Ignore feature.
If I'm participating in a discussion (as I am now), it means I find value in it. There's no value in me expressing my preference for a candidate and having to listen to diatribe about how said person is a liar, communist, "shrill," misogynistic, or whatever. I've heard it all.
Donald Trump is a buffoon. Ted Cruz is a dangerous ideologue. John Kasich is a wolf in wolf's clothing. Nothing more to be said. I'm voting Democratic in November.
Peace to all.

(57,097 posts)I really do not want to hears the average person's unsolicited opinion on Trump or Cruz or Clinton or Sanders. I think its a crying shame how behavior has devolved on the part of Democrats. I have come to expect it from the GOP. But us, too?!?!?!?

(58,724 posts)I get that the list is tongue in cheek to some extent, but why be hostile to someone (to the point of violent fantasies) who just asks about the election?
Righteous indignation makes you the voice of reason.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)Isn't that the point of being politically active? I am not indignant. I am just asking why someone asking about the election would give someone else the urge to stab that person in the eye with a fork.

(58,724 posts)I didn't really get that implication. Personally, I think the more we get people talking about the election, the better.

(4,532 posts)As much as I love Bernie, none of the candidates are optimistic about America like they were before. Instead of "I have never been more hopeful about America." what we here from candidates on both sides is "We're fucked unless you elect me!"
oberliner
(58,724 posts)That's kind of a hopeful message from Hillary.

(170 posts)we haven't been "great" for about 30 years.
We certainly aren't now.
Name one, ONE POSITIVE thing the US is number 1 in on any metric that matters to quality of life, economically, etc.
We've fallen behind because government stopped doing it's job... taking care of it's citizens.

(31,392 posts)No matter what type of "list" you look at--from education to civil rights to children living in poverty to health care to income inequality and on and on...
the US comes in way behind many other western industrialized countries.
I don't think it's true and I don't know whether we change it unless we really turn around who gets and wields power in this country.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)Even if you think it is BS, she is trying to present a message of hope there.

(31,392 posts)on so many measures of once greatness, and then propose plans for improvement.
But that would require support for getting money out of the election process and limiting the gazillions
spent lobbying Congress.

(16,245 posts)A lot of people are not experiencing anything of the economic recovery.
Add to the fact that, despite empty promises of "hope" and "change", nothing ever seems to change.

(29,067 posts)with white people...The legitimacy of any viewpoint held by one, is, in her view, diminished if not demolished, by their skin tone.
Perhaps we should no longer have views, or at least the temerity to state them.
All I can tell Ijeoma is "good luck" electing Democrats without white women.

(685 posts)Although I don't quite get the big deal about Hillary and hot sauce. She's been a collector for years....
The ironic part is that shes actually telling the truth. Clinton actually does carry Tabasco sauce and red pepper flakes in her purse wherever she goes. Whats more when she was First Lady, Clinton reportedly kept the White House pantry stocked with more than 100 bottles of hot sauce at all times.
So she's a fan of hot sauce, what's the big deal ~
MSNBC did a little blurb about it a few days ago....
